One thing that I feel is important with HOD is to not feel bound by ages/grades. If they fit in the guide, then that's where they should be no matter their age.... except I would draw the line at say, a 6 year old in Preparing or something like that but older doing a "younger" guide. Preparing is a LOT. I'm learning a TON through it And DITHOR is just done at whatever level they are in...it's not based on the guide the students are in.

I've been homeschooling from the beginning and testing didn't bother me while I was independent. Now, that we are with a charter and are required to test...it gets to me. I give in to fears, that I am ruining my kids.
I agree. I think Bigger for dd, and PHFHG with extensions for ds are perfect placements! I wouldn't add writing to PHFHG, as it would be enough and you'd mentioned earlier you'd not been having ds do much writing. I think PHFHG will be great for him! And, it is one of my favorite guides to teach. I think you will thoroughly enjoy this transition you see in him to sharing work this year. His independence will go up in PHFHG, and that will give you time to focus on dd in Bigger Hearts more. Enjoy - and remember, every year from here on out becomes more independent for ds, which makes multiple guides honestly easier than one guide where tweaking, tweaking, tweaking for someone is required!
