3) Read the Level 2 books and have him do the DITHOR discussions and activities orally, but write the answers for him in the workbook.
4) Do DITHOR Level 2 as written, having him dictate the answers to me and then copy it into his workbook.
We are currently doing option #3 and it is working well so far. I wonder if you could start with something like #2 and then work up to #3 and then #4 as time goes on.
Years ago, this is pretty much what we did when Riley was 6 1/2 years old, and it worked great!

I did actually start by spreading out the Level 2 books though. I had him just read to me, just 2-3 pages at a time at first. Then, we moved to having him read to me one day, and then the next day I had him read to me and do the DITHOR lesson. We took our sweet time and enjoyed it.

I asked him the DITHOR questions, but I wrote his answers in his workbook for him. We then did #4 listed above, and by the end of the 2/3 Workbook, he was writing all his answers, and I was near him to help with spelling as needed.

We enjoyed this! I'd definitely recommend it.

At first in BHFHG, DITHOR is scheduled 5 days a week. Doing DITHOR 5 days a week, a student will work through the whole 2/3 Student Book. Starting in PHFHG, and then on up, DITHOR is scheduled 3 days a week. Doing DITHOR 3 days a week, a student will work through about half of a DITHOR Student Book. We will have gone through the 2/3 Student Book twice by the time we are done. It has been just fine! The books are different, and none of the pages in the Student Books are repeats, so it feels fresh, as we only did each page twice over the span of several years.

HTH!

So I found some 1st grade level resources to use with any book, and I will have her narrate. We will work from the list in Beyond for "after emerging readers." Her reading level is great but comprehension and analysis not so much. I found DITHOR used and got the manual to evaluate when we'll be ready for that...maybe mid 1st grade, maybe 2nd. Thanks ya'll!
