What we are referring to is our children's ages of doing LHFHG. Not to the curriculum at all. The curriculum is not behind at all, in fact if anything the upper guides are what I would think was ahead of public schools in NZ.

I understand that in homeschooling you have a different scope and sequence than the schools so your kids might not test as well as other kids because they haven't studied the same stuff that year, but I can't believe that they would be seriously BEHIND, right? I thought that I had read on here somewhere that the curriculum is written with national and state standards in mind...
HOD is not behind  The ladies were talking about their own children who are slightly behind their peers in fine motor skills, etc. Given time, using HOD and getting the one-on-one attention that homeschooling allows, both ladies (and the rest of us) feel that their children will be able to catch up.

Thank you ladies, I knew you were referring to your children with fine motor issues as I was also referring to my son with some fine motor issues, however I had also asked in my post if HOD is on grade level with the public school (I said something like that anyway :) and so I wasn't sure what exactly you meant. Thanks. I know that LHFHG is so gentle and I just want to make sure that what my boy will be learning will have him on grade level with his peers. Yet I also appreciate that children are placed according to skill level.

HOD is not behind ps nor is hs behind ps. My ds 10/5th grade is in CTC and must test every year per state guidelines. I use the CAT a norm referenced test that is scored by the company I use the test from. My ds has steadily improved every year and last test scores were in 98% in many categories putting his stanines in PHS (post high school) level. Not that he could do work at that level but someone that level would complete the test the same way. Our state expects a 30% so he has surpassed that.
I am going to also add that my older dd (20) was in ps until 2nd grade and behind her peers requiring summer school and after school, but has past her peers with 1:1 hs instruction. She just graduated from 4 years of college BA Magna Cum Laude! Her peers will be 22 before they graduate. My dd also has The Lord as her everything! I am sure that ps would not have given her that. She has succeeded because she was able to have The Lord in her day and have the 1:1 tutoring hs provided. She only used HOD DITHOR from 2002/3 to 2006 as this was what was available. My ds has used only HOD from LHTH to CTC.

Thanks chillin'inandover, that's really great to know! And it sounds like your son is in the upper age ranges of the guides just as mine would be if we did right side LHFHG and LHTH for his K year. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that. By the way, I have been wondering... My state doesn't require any testing, but when do you administer the CAT test? For example, if my son were to take the CAT test for K would he take it at the beginning or end of his Kindergarten year?

Typically your son would take it at the end of his school year, as most kiddos do their testing then. We do our last thing of the year, right before our summer break. I'm not sure that there is a test for K. Often testing doesn't begin formally until first grade, just because kiddos prior to that age aren't able to read any of the test themselves (or fill in the answer sheet correctly which can really affect their scores).

I wanted to pop back and mention that my husband says that LHFHG will probably be going to press with its reprint in about a month now. It will be another 3 weeks or so after that before we begin shipping the new LHFHG guides (probably mid-July), but this is sooner than expected (simply because the guides are selling much more quickly than expected, making our inventory go quickly). So for those of you trying to plan your LHFHG purchase, this may help. :D

Carrie, it is so great of you to take the time to personally comment... Thank you so much. =) We very much feel the Lord has led us to HOD and we can't wait to get started. By the way, I have another thread on here requesting help with placement... If you happen to ever have the time, I would love your opinion. Thank you for all that you do! =)

SarahAngeline,
Our state requires we test annually. We don't have to report until they are 7 in September 1st. So my kiddos have been 7 in 2nd grade when I reported them and tested them. Like Carrie said I wouldn't test until they were in 1st if you wanted to test. I don't believe I would test unless I was required to. I would wait until 5 th or 7th grade but that is just my opinion. The testing has helped prepare older kiddos for ACT & SAT but that is for those interested in college. My state requires testing and reporting from 7-16 years old. The yearly at home testing made them comfortable taking tests and they enjoyed it as it signaled the end of year. Since I had late readers it helped to wait until 7.
