Economics Credit for MTMM for 9th Grade

Post by homeforhim » Fri Apr 12, 2013 10:19 am

I know Carrie has suggested adding to the Whatever Happened to Penny Candy and Common Sense Business for Kids to provide an economics credit for MTMM. I will have my ninth grader doing this guide next year. Would the Notgrass Economics that Carrie enjoyed this year with her son be doable at this earlier age? I know on their website, Notgrass recommends it for grades 10 - 12. Is it too early for a study of this topic and with this resource at grade 9? Does anyone have any thoughts on this based on their experience? Is economics in more depth just better grasped when the student is more mature? Lots of questions :D .

I am also trying to figure out what to use. But isn't Whatever Happened to Penny Candy and Common Sense Business for Kids already scheduled in MtMM? If so, did Carrie recommend something in addition to these for credit or do these give High School by themselves? Hope that makes sense

Rachael,

Normally I wouldn't recommend doing Notgrass Economics with a freshman, however if the Notgrass book was used along with the study of modern times in MTMM, I do think it would make much more sense than when used in isolation. So, it may be possible to use it with success in that specific scenario. You will want to ponder whether your student is a strong reader as to whether adding the Notgrass' Economics to MTMM would be too much. In the thread that Mercy linked above, you can see a couple of other options to ponder for gaining economics credit too. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
