Hello there -
Our son, who just turned eight, is going through the DITHOR program... We just started a new book - a nonfiction - which is "One Small Square - Backyard" by Donald M. Silver. He LOVES the book... However, he is wanting to do all the hands-on activities... and we live in Indiana... and it is winter... Can anyone recommend another book to substitute for us to read through now - so he can go back to the One Small Square book this summer and do all the fun stuff along with it? Many, many thanks!

Book to substitute for DITHOR
Re: Book to substitute for DITHOR
Nicole,
I'll move this post over to the Main Board where more moms will see it. All new posts begin on the Main Board.
While you could easily substitute a different One Small Square book in its place, you may just wish to continue reading through the backyard book now and come back and redo it with activities in the summer. Enthusiasm is a wonderful thing in reading, and if a child is excited about a book I love to let the child read it while the enthusiasm lasts!
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: Book to substitute for DITHOR
This is what I was going to suggest too. The DITHOR books we own are among the most often reread books we own. They are just wonderful books. I bet if you let your ds know he can have the OSS Backyard back in the summer to pour over it and get busy with the hands-on stuff, he'd be glad to just read it now. He could better prepare for it in the summer then. Otherwise, the Sample Book Ideas list has some good suggestions for books too. I'm so glad your ds is enjoying the OSS book - our sons did too. They are avid outdoors men already. The pictures in those books are especially captivating, aren't they?Carrie wrote:...While you could easily substitute a different One Small Square book in its place, you may just wish to continue reading through the backyard book now and come back and redo it with activities in the summer...
