Handwriting programs

It came to my attention yesterday that A Reason for Handwriting uses a bible version other than the KJV as it's sample verses for the children to copy. We are a KJV only family, and DH is not happy with this and wants me to find a different program to use. Unfortunately, I am finding it hard to find on various websites what bible version publishers use in the product descriptions! ugh...

Does anyone know anything about Horizons Penmanship or Weaver Penmanship to Praise and what bible version they use? If they use something other than KJV are the workbooks in such a way where I could easily write in the KJV verse or are the verses dotted for tracing as written?

Does anyone know any other KJV handwriting programs?

I am pretty sure Abeka is KJV also. Thanks for asking this question, as we have the same issue.

I am using Abeka now, but the manuscript version of the K5 writing with phonics. I worry because they don't have a transitional guide later to cursive since they start it in K4 with their curriculum

When we started our homeschool journey we began with Abeka K4 DVD. My ds took to cursive well, but it was not working out for us as a whole so we ditched it and I began my search. Thankfully, I found HOD!

About the ARFH A...I looked at the sample on their website and it looks as though it would be easy to substitute the KJV. Looks like they practice the words in the verse separately through the week and then on the last day they copy the entire verse on one of the border sheets. So, I was thinking as long as I didn't have to change the entire verse, ds could still use the workbook with a bit of tweeking for our needs. In the particular sample they showed, only one word would need to be changed: to/unto. So I would just have him copy the verse from our board or something instead of the one in his workbook. HTH

If you are looking at the K book, we are using it now. It does not use verses. The verses start in the A book.

We have also had the same issue with the Hide Em In your Heart CD. It does not use the KJV only. Just thought I would give you a head's up on that.

I would be using the A book, I think. DD has had two years of practice already, and I felt like the K book would be redoing what she is doing this year with the Abeka K5.

Thanks for the heads up about the Hide Em in Your Heart. That's a bummer because my kids enjoy the Singing Bible CD so much with LHTH. Do you substitute anything else for the music?

We don't substitute anything...unfortunately

Hide Em in Your Heart directly correlates to the Bible memory verse for each unit, so I just couldn't see expecting him to memorize the verse from the KJV and hearing another version sung to the tune. I think its a great idea, but it just didn't work for us. I would say that you could continue to use The Singing Bible, but just hand pick which song you use for the week that correlates with the weeks bible study. But that probably wouldn't work once you got out of the Bible stories and into the American History units. I would say it would be easy to find something to use though. You might look into "Wee Sing Bible Songs" or "Wee Sing America", which are both recommended in the appendix of LHFHG as optional supplements.

Looking ahead, we will be starting Beyond in the fall and will have the same issue with Vol. 2 of Hide Em in Your Heart there. What I am considering doing is Hymns for a Kid's Heart Vol.1 which is scheduled for Bigger, and then when we get to Bigger we will just do Vol. 2 of Hymns for a Kid's Heart. There are other volumes to Hymns for a Kid's Heart, so if it looks like something you would be interested in you could begin with Vol 1 in LHFHG and move along as you go.
