Latin and Greek

Forgive me if this is covered somewhere...I'm sure it is, but I have complete brain fog right now. My little guy and I were in the ER from about 2am till 7:30am. He has RSV with Croup and double ear infection. So, I'm sure I could do a search but I don't have the attention span right now to dig through the threads.

Are Latin and Greek covered in one of the guides (or will be in a future guide)? And if not, at what age should a child begin that kind of study and what have people used successfully and found easy to add in to HOD?

I am so sorry about your baby To answer your question though, I am pretty sure that latin and greek are not in any current guides. I am not sure what will be in the future guides, there would have to be some kind of language option in highschool guides I am sure. I do know that I have seen where Carrie reccomends Hey Andrew Teach me Some Greek... I am thinking this is what she has used with her own children. I have no clue how to give you a link to the post or I would, sorry. I am going to use this with my kids next year I hope. I think it starts pretty young, I am planning on using it with my 8 and 10 and 14 year olds. It may even be good for a kindergartener. Just google the name As for Latin it was always my intention to start it in the third grade, I have even bought some really nice programs. They have sat on the shelf because I have not had the time for them, they were very teacher intensive.

We've been using (very slowly....) Latin for Children and we really like it. It is not teacher intensive at all b/c you buy dvds and they do the teaching for you.

Good to know! I am wanting to start Latin sometime too.... I definitely need "non-teacher intensive" as much as possible!

Right now we are using Latin's Not So Tough lvl2, and Song School Latin. All of the kids love Song School Latin, and I would like to get Latin For Children.

I would highly recommend Latin for Children. I would not start before Preparing. The grammar is intense and should correspond well with R & S 4 or something equivalent.

We're also using Latin's Not So Tough. I like it...strong in vocab, but not big on grammar yet in the level we're in. We've also started using Visual Latin which is VERY inexpensive and makes learning the more difficult grammar concepts very entertaining and effective. It's downloadable videos or you can get the DVD's. There are printable worksheets to go along with it. My DD9 LOVES it and actually asks to do it. The guy is just really a great teacher.

I think Carrie has considered offering a language option in a later guide using Getting Started in Latin. Not sure if she's decided for sure or not.
