Question about 4 days a week
Since the program is 4 days a week (we are looking at Beyond), do you finish the entire math curriculum doing it only 4 days or do you go ahead and do it 5 days a week in order to complete it in one school year?

Beyond is actually written as a 5-day per week plan, but you could do it 4 days a week if you wanted, you'd just take 43 weeks to get through the program instead of 34. And yes, some people do math 5 days per week anyhow and just keep a separate tab/clip on the math page, it just depends on what works best for your family and your goals.

Oh ok, I have read so much I must have gotten confused. We are researching programs for two kids so maybe it was the other one I saw. Thank you for taking the time to reply!

Re: Question about 4 days a week
Preparing and up are 4-day units.
All of HOD's programs are flexible enough to use in any way your family desires though! You could do the 5-day units with 4-day weeks and just take longer to finish. You can use the 4-day units with 5-day weeks and finish earlier. We just do the next day in the guide the next day we do school. They're not labeled Mon, Tues, Wed, etc. For some reason this makes it so easy for me to handle using them on any day.
Today with my kids we were on Unit 14 Day 3 in LHTH, Unit 24 Day 1 in LHFHG, and Unit 13 Day 2 in CTC. We typically finish a unit of CTC per week. The little 2 just cruise along doing the next day as it comes. We've done 5 days per week of LHFHG whenever we can - it's so FUN! And, Allison is truly ready to move on to Beyond as soon as we get there.

Re: Question about 4 days a week
Kathleen, I see you are using the emergent readers for your 6 yr old. We are trying to decide if we should do that next year with our 6 yr old dd (with Beyond) or whether we should do more phonics. She is reading quite well and will finish Rod and Staff 1 this year. What do you think? What does the emergent reader's schedule look like? Thank you so much!

Amanda,
I'm not Kathleen, but I can help. Here's a link to the Emerging Reader's Set. Link: http://www.heartofdakota.com/emerging-reader.php
Typically most phonics programs take two years to go through their phonics instruction, so you'll want to check if Rod and Staff is still doing phonics in grade 2? If not, then your little honey will be ready for the Emerging Reader's Set.
The Early Reader's Bible is at a 2.0 or beginning second grade reading level and is the first book in the Emerging Reader's Set. If your child is beyond that, then you can instead pick The Beginner's Bible which is at a mid-second grade reading level.
If Rod and Staff still does phonics in grade 2, then you may have to finish out your phonics instruction one way or another first and then head into the Emerging Reader's Set. Or, depending on how long Rod and Staff phonics takes each day in grade 2, you may be able to do it at the same time as the Emerging Reader's Set.
Blessings,
Carrie
