Such a blessing to see changes in ds....

Post by Lynnw » Sat Mar 28, 2009 12:54 pm

I cannot tell you how big the smile on my face last night as my family rode together to an awards dinner for my dh's work and the whole ride my 2nd ds, 7yo, was on the lookout for daffodils! This is my ds who "hates school," balks at all art assignments, loves Star Wars, loves all things battles, guns, swords, light sabers, rolls his eyes for anything pink, girly, fairy tales, etc. We are doing Beyond and our poem this week was "The Months." I told him he didn't have to draw every month/scene, but could pick just one. He chose to draw a daffodil for March. So I found some pictures and also drew one and told him they are in bloom now and easy to find. He found out I was right during our car ride. To think this son would be looking for flowers and excited when he saw them was cracking me up - on the inside, of course

He always complains about the poetry drawings, but then ultimately draws something that expresses the meaning quite nicely. A year ago at co-op he was turning every art project into Star Wars battles. I am so thankful God led me to HOD!!!

Ahh... I have a Star Wars lovin', flower pickin' 7 yo ds too! He could crash swords or dig his "deer trap" all day and then unwind to Bach while drawing a bird in his nature notebook. I love it!

I know how near and dear it is to a mom's heart when her son shows a tender side. I have 3 sons, and it is rare. That is one of the reasons I love the poetry in HOD - it has brought out a softer side in my "all-boy" boys. How cute that your rough and tumble guy was seeking out daffodils during a car ride! That's precious. :D

Lynn,

You just warmed my heart with your story this evening! Charlotte Mason would be so proud of you!

I love to see my boys excited about nature, flowers, birds, and poetry. My boys are ALL BOY, yet they have learned to love these things too. :D

Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,
Carrie
