RE:MATH QUESTIONS FOR LHFHG
Hi. I'm brand new to HOD, and I'm so excited! I just found HOD last week (with the Lord's help, I believe), and had a real peace about using this curriculum, which is such a relief, because home-schooling has been a lot of frustration and worrying up until now, but I knew without a doubt that I was supposed to be teaching our children, so I'm so thankful to have found this wonderful answer to my prayers!
I do have a question that I'm hoping someone can help me with, though.
I already have Hooked on Math, and it's worked o.k. for us, though neither my son or I are loving it. We're not that far into it, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had any experience, good or bad, with HOM, that they wouldn't mind passing on. I would sure appreciate it! I've also read so many reviews on Singapore Math, and I'm kind of on the fence about that, too, so once again, I would appreciate any opinions!
Thanks so much,
Briana

Hi Briana,
I'm not at all familiar with HOM, but wanted to welcome you to HOD forum. I hope you find the answers you're looking for.

Re: RE:MATH QUESTIONS FOR LHFHG
Briana,
Welcome! I can so relate to what you said about the Lord Leading you to HOD and the peace of not having to worry about how to pull it all together anymore. It is such a blessing.
I have used HOM a little. My two youngest liked it but I do not think they retained as much as they have with Singapore. Having said that if your child liked HOM I think they would really like Singapore. My two little ones (one is doing K and One is almost at 1B) beg me to do it all the time. They absolutely love it and I have seen that it really helps them translate what the learned to other things. So I recommend it. I wish I had used it with all my kids.
Welcome to HOD and glad to have you here!

Re: RE:MATH QUESTIONS FOR LHFHG
Hi, Jen. Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I know I will find the answers to my questions here.
When I found this curriculum (LHFHG), I felt such a peace, and then I went to the website to see if there was a program for my 4-year old (where I found LHTH) , and then I found the message boards, and I was so encouraged. What a blessing to have such a wonderful support system!
Water to Wine, thank you so much for relaying your personal experience with the two different math programs. I so appreciate having your testimony to help make the right choice for our family.
So thankful,
Briana

Re: RE:MATH QUESTIONS FOR LHFHG
Briana,
I just wanted to pop-in as I'm signing off, to let you know we have also used HOM for my oldest son (quite awhile back) as a "fun review". I agree with water2wine! My boys didn't retain as much from it as I would have liked.
In the long-run, you'll need some sort of more formal math program to cover all your bases. Since your kiddos are young, it would be a good time to try Singapore math, as it's easier to start out with it than it is to switch to it later. Just some food for thought!
We pray you'll enjoy HOD and that it will be a blessing to your family.
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: RE:MATH QUESTIONS FOR LHFHG
Thanks to all of you for your help. The input has helped me decide that I will continue to use HOP for phonics/reading,and supplement with Explode the Code (which I've heard wonderful things about), and I'll switch to Singapore for math for both of my boys (ages 4 and 7).
One other question that I haven't received an answer to yet is whether LHFHG or Singapore covers time and money?
Thanks again,
Briana
