Will Preparing fit an 11-12 year old only child?

Post by MamaMary » Sun Jun 01, 2008 3:01 pm

Hi Sweet Girls,

I am not ready for preparing so I've not been following the threads as closely as I normally would. I have a dear friend who has a beautiful daughter. She is interested in Preparing, but didn't understand how It would fit her daughter's age level?

What would she need to purchase?

Thank YOU,
Mary

Hi Mary!
I'm sure that Carrie will be able to answer the specifics of this much better than I could but I just wanted to tell you that my son will be 11 1/2 when we start Preparing in the fall. I ordered the economy pack with the science add on, the basic package, deluxe package and Drawn into the Heart of Reading (with the 2/3 grade workbook-after looking over both this level and the 4/5 workbook, I thought we would be better served to start out conservatively and work our way up from there :) ). We will be using our own choice of math and grammar. I believe that this will be a perfect match for my son's learning style as well as my teaching style. :D Kimber

Mary,

naturegirl did a wonderful job of helping you already. I'll just pop-in to say that your friend would need the Economy Package for sure. She'll need to add the Science Adder if she'll be using our science.

She'll also probably want the historical fiction read-alouds (which are in the Basic Package). Last, she'll need to add the Extension Package for her older student. She won't need the Deluxe Package (unless she sees some titles in there that are just too good to pass up). The Extension Package is scheduled for her independent reader in the Appendix (just like it is in "Bigger..").

Last, she'll need to either use DITHR or something else for literature study. She'll need to choose whether or not to add the optional but highly recommended CD of the Psalms. She'll also need to add her own math and grammar, unless she's following one of our scheduled options (which are Rod and Staff English 3 and 4 and Singapore 2A/2B, 3A/3B, and 4A/4B). We provide enough dictation, so she should be covered there.

Hope that helps.

Blessings,
Carrie
