Advice needed on when to start LHTH

Post by lmercon » Tue May 20, 2008 11:52 am

Hi,
I'll be starting Beyond with my ds in the fall. My daughter will be three in July. Originally, I thought I would wait and start LHTH when she was four and this next year just do my own preschool thing or follow an online program. Now, I'm wondering if I should start LHTH this year and maybe take two years to cover it - adding in anything else that seems fun or resources I already own. What do you think? Should I wait and do it in one year when she is four or start when she is three and take my time getting through it?
Thanks for your advice,
Laura

I am going to start Little Hands with my 3 year old when I start Beyond with his big brother. I plan to take my time going through it.

lmercon,

I've done it both ways! I started my second son when he was 4, and we breezed through Little Hands... and had a great time.

With my third son, we started when he was 3 and took 2 years to cover it. He begged to do what he called his "pre-d-school" and learned a lot along the way. He certainly couldn't do it to the level my second son did, but both were prepared to start "Little Hearts..." when they finished.

So, in my opinion, I'd start now rather then having to come up with my own ideas instead! That's why I started my second one at 3.

I'm sure more moms will chime in with their own advice. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

You could start LHTH now and stretch it out for two years. If you decided to go that route, you could always look at www.letteroftheweek.com for some ideas on filling out those other days that aren't HOD days. They have some book suggestions and songs that go with the letter theme in LHTH.

Hi Laura!

My ds will also turn 3 in August, and I was thinking, just like you, what to do. I decided to take 2 years with LHTH and if there are some days that he wants to do more, then we will just throw in an extra project. There are many websites out there that have preschool worksheets and activities. I love that with HOD it is very simple and layed out for me and I can add to it if I want.

Also, you could use the Child's First Bible and Big Thoughts for Little People for the year that your daughter is 3, and then if you wanted, move on to the New Bible Picture For Little Eyes and My ABC Bible Verses for when your daughter is 4. :D :D
