organizing non consumables for future use?

Post by TammyTE » Fri Aug 05, 2011 10:11 pm

I was thinking of getting an accordion file that has a pocket for each unit. I could keep any non consumables for use later with my younger children. I know with Beyond I will copy the poem and cut it like a puzzle and laminate it. There could also be the Bible verses, spelling words on cards, any index cards made up for various geography or math. I think there is quite a bit I could save from LHFHG as well.

Does anyone know if there would be a lot of this type of stuff for Bigger? I'm trying to figure out how many accordion files to purchase.

I'm also thinking this might be nice to work ahead as I am able to get things ready for each unit and just stick the items in the pocket for that unit.

Any thoughts on this? Would it be worth it?

Hmmm, that might have been a good idea. The only thing I kept from LHTH thru BHFHG was the laminated ABC cards I made for LHTH. It never occurred to me to keep the spelling cards we made or the bible verse cards.... :D

I have laminated letter cards that are 8.5 x 11 from Handwriting Without Tears. I'm thinking I'll just use those for LHTH.

I'm wondering if I *need* a pocket for each unit or if I can fudge it a bit with a smaller number of pockets. Lots of them have 21 pockets. Then there are some smaller and some larger.

I think that is a great idea. I still have my Bible verse notecards from the previous programs, but they are still just in an index card file box. I didn't save many of the other things, but I don't have any other children to go through the program later. I think there would be several things along the way that you make in Bigger. I remember making cards with the streets around our house to make a sort of map. I think that was last year in Bigger. I remember making "rural" and "urban" cards too. I think that was last year. So I'm sure you have several things like this throughout the year. Another thing you will make in Bigger are cards of the states. So that will be quite a few cards to save. I do think that you would be fine though to just use a pocket folder with 21 pockets because there will be some weeks where you might not have anything at all so you'll be able to group units together. What a wonderful idea! :D
