Unit 1, Day 1 Success!

Post by faithful2him » Mon Aug 01, 2011 7:59 pm

Okay, it seems so silly, but I am actually giddy about our day. We had a good year last year using other things besides HOD, but today just flowed so much more smoothly. I loved it and cannot wait until tomorrow.

:) Praise the Lord for leading us to HOD!

ME TOO!! I am happy dancing with you!

Today was our first day of Bigger and Preparing with Extensions. My 8yo son and 10 yo son had a blast! My 10 yo son was so happy that he could take the guide and do his own work without having to wait on his brother. My 8 yo son kept telling me how great it was that he got me all to himself to do his "school". We were done by lunch, and that has not happened in a LONG time around here! I almost cried at the sheer beauty of it all!! My older three children are at an aunt's for the week, so I do realize that some adjustments will have to be made when my 13 yo dd and 15 yo ds start. But the way I have my schedule layed out, the older ones do their alone work in the morning while I am teaching the two younger boys, then right before lunch and right after I have my teaching blocks with my 13 and 15 yos. This way the younger two are done and if the older two need help then I am free to give it to them. Carrie is brilliant! I love the fact of not having to add anything in or going on any rabbit trails. Just do what is in each box as written and they got so much out of it, but they knew exactly what to expect. HOD is a lifesaver and a timesaver! Thanks you Carrie and Julie for all your hard work and for blessing us with your talents!!

We started Unit 1, day 1 on Monday too. We are doing Beyond for 1st grade. This is our first year homeschooling and I love what we've done the past 3 days. I have a younger son who has special needs so he has a crazy therapy schedule, some who come to the house and some who we take him to. So far we haven't been able to find a solid block of time to do the whole day's work, but have needed to spread it out over 2-3 times periods. HOD allows us to do that, and reminds me how to wrap it all together into a cohesive day of school. So, so, so, so happy we picked HOD.
