CTC paint ? cakes or tubes?

Hi,
Just wondering what you experienced CTC moms think about paint choices. Do you like the watercolor cakes or tube paints better? Are the cakes a softer color and more able to be blended and watered down?
Thanks,
Laura

I don't have experience with the paint cakes, but we're using the paint tubes that Miller Pads & Paper sells. As I can only attest to the tubes, they do work very nicely. They are easy to use, and mix very well with the water to produce a smooth textured, vivid colored paint. They also apply very nicely to the paper, making it easy and fun to do the painting in CTC. :D

We are using the cakes. My son likes them. They seem easier and less messy than the tubes would be...just my little 2 cents.

We have no experience with the cakes. We went with the tubes from Miller also, and those worked fine for us. We got the plastic pallet and it always cleaned up nicely.

We also went the tube route and they worked fine. :D I went that way thinking maybe they would last longer but have no idea if that is the case.

Laura,

We went with the tubes, but having NO prior art knowledge I didn't think to water the tube paint down (or tell dd to). We ended up with some THICKLY painted artwork. It was a funny moment for us after we realized we'd left out the water in watercolor paint. DD feels like she's much more grown up with these tube paints and now her artwork looks fantastic.

We used tubes and a paint tray last year and it worked well for us. The paintings turned out beautifully!

If you don't want to buy the tubes online, we found them pretty decently priced at Michael's Craft Store.

We used the cakes last year. I really wish I would have bought the tubes. They are instructed to mix the colors often to get a certain effect. We found this difficult to do without getting the colors all muddy. When my daughter does CTC next year I will definitely be buying the tubes.
