Confused about Preparing, what books to order

I won't bore you all with my long story with my search for the perfect curriculum to help my spoiled only ds, LOL! With that said...
I have looked at the placement chart and ds fits better with Preparing than any other guides. He's 10 (April b'day) and is functioning more or less at about 4th grade level for this year. We are coming from primarily textbooks and will continue with some of those that are working. However, we are still drawn to HOD for history and science in particular. We might even branch out to other areas in the future. I would love for this kid to love school! However, not sure if it's gonna happen, ever. We have bounced around with programs, so not much history/science has happened in the past.
What do you suggest us adding to the basic preparing package?? I know science, but what about the others? Would he need the extension books or etc.? Ds is somewhat immature for his age, but I don't want it "too" easy for him.

I appreciate any and all help. :D
Thanks!

Welcome to HOD! We are doing Preparing for the second time in my family this year. You will love it. :D Based on your description of your child. I would get the Economy Package, The Basic, The science, and the SELF-STUDY DELUXE HISTORY PACKAGE: FOR THE NEWLY INDEPENDENT READER. That extension package I think would be perfect for your son and it would give him some independent reading that will be real interesting for him. I think your son will find Preparing very entertaining. Enjoy your year! :D

agreeing! I would get exactly what water2wine suggested. I would not get the SELF-STUDY EXTENSION PACKAGE FOR OLDER STUDENTS as that is for 5th and 6th graders.

Ok just so you do not get confused. The one that is suggested was for the 3rd and 4th grade level. So definitely make sure you take a look at that one called SELF-STUDY DELUXE HISTORY PACKAGE: FOR THE NEWLY INDEPENDENT READER and stating it is for 3rd to 4th graders. The above is just a confirmation of that exact same thing. :D But just wanted to restate that because it can get a little confusing.
