Question about BLHFHG spelling

Post by mater est laetus » Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:21 pm

What is the difference between spelling lists 1 and 2 in BLHFHG? I'm presuming 2 is more advanced. Is that right? Can someone give me a general idea by giving a couple of words from the first and last weeks?

Hi!

Week 1 List 1:

Week 1 List 2:

Week 30 List 1:

Week 30 List 2:

I hope that helps!!!
Blessings,
Elisabeth

Yes. That helps a ton. Except that now I'm frustrated because I could have used that guide this year and it would have saved me money for next year because I would already have it. *sigh* oh well.

Oh, I'm so sorry!

If you don't mind me asking, did you buy LHFHG this year?

I bought Preparing about a month ago, then realized that Bigger is what we really need for next year and went ahead and ordered that. So you're not the only one who might have messed up! :)

Elisabeth

I bought LHFHG and LHTH for this year. Carrie had said something about DS possibly doing the right side of BLHFHG if he seemed ready but I had completely forgot about it until after we started. Perhaps I'll be getting Bigger as well when I buy Beyond next year. We'll see how it goes, I guess.

I hope what I say next is taken as I intend it: kindly and gently! I don't really know anything about your children or situation, so please feel free to disregard!

It might be good to remember that (at least in my humble opinion) a five year old will be okay without formal spelling instruction. It's so easy expect too much, especially of one's oldest child. I had been warned about this when my oldest was little, but I still pushed him more than I should have. The thing is that at the time, I didn't realize at all that I was pushing him too hard!

At any rate, I hope you can have peace about your school year! :D
Blessings,
Elisabeth

lol No, I totally understand that. Writing is his thing. He started at 3.5yo and these days he randomly likes to create his own spelling lists of words like Walmart and motorcycle (with which he required little direction from me, mind you - I was quite impressed  ). I am using something simple with him now in lieu of the Beyond LA and what I was actually hoping is that he can just go into list 2 next year. I won't really know where he's at until we get there but I was just curious. I really appreciate your help with that. :D

Sounds like he really enjoys words ... and how different children are in their strengths and interests! My daughter who will soon be five can only write a few letters really well at this point. (We'll be working on that more this year!) :D

That's encouraging for me to hear though because my daughter is not like him either and I tend to think of her as "behind" in fine motor skills whereas that may be unfair and based on a comparison with her brother. She'll actually won't be 4 til September and at her age he could write the entire alphabet legibly, even neatly, and she's not even ready for tracers. She started reading sooner though. He wasn't close to blending at her age and I've had to lead him in learning to read where as she taught herself the sounds and started blending instantly and seeking me out for further lessons which is the only reason I'm doing a phonics program with a 3yo.

They all go at their own pace! :D My 3rd grader and my 1st grader were both doing 3rd grade math last year (and it was easier for the 1st grader!). My 3rd grader started wiring electrical parts to make working models when he was VERY young, and now can do things with electrical wiring that I cannot begin to understand. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses ... and that's OKAY! (I have to remind myself of that often! )

:D

Well, thank-you of reminding me of it again also. I need it regularly and for more than just relating to the children! :D

One last thing I want to add! I think my previous post made it sound like my children are advanced in everything. That is NOT the case!!! My 2nd oldest has a very easy time with schoolwork, but my firstborn really struggles -- that's why I mentioned how great he is at things that are not they typical school-work type things! (Just wanted to make sure I was expressing myself in the way I intended!) :D

 It never even crossed my mind. I was just marveling in your point - the diversity of our abilities and strengths. :D
