Writing for Bigger?

Post by tnahid » Thu Jul 21, 2011 12:43 am

Hi there,

Well we got settled in TX. I haven't been on here in a while! Thanks for you prayers for our move. Anyway, I have a question about a writing curriculum for my 10 year old this year. What do you recommend? I saw on the site a program called "Writing Strands" and then saw someone talking about "Igniting your Writing." Which would be the one I needed to use. This year we are planning to do DITHOR and Bigger with both my sons, but I do not plan to use Rod and Staff English. It just does not gel with me for some reason. I don't enjoy teaching it and doing it with them. Anyway, we are looking into a computer based LA but I want to get a writing program for them to do along with that.

Thanks!
Tina

I am the one with the question about Ignite Your Writing. I used it with my dds about 7 years ago before it was at HOD. Just trying to use what I have acquired through the years to get ds just turned 9 -4th grader ready for CTC as written when he is in 5th grade. Ignite your writing does not have grammar skills but is a writing program. You will need a grammar program to compliment Ignite your writing I recall it says in Beyond manual you can use your own grammar if not using R & S. I was not crazy about it when I first started but it has grown on us and we are now doing R & S 4. It has helped with ds's grammar skills but he isn't fond of writing so much so I have eased him into his writing portion of lesson. He has been successful on our required state exams so it must be sinking in. My dds love writing and this is a gentle writing program that they started out in and progressed to other more difficult programs not available at HOD (not that HOD doesn't have difficult writing they didn't have it at the time they needed it and they have graduated from HS HS). This should work with my son because it is a gentle approach to writing for those reluctant writers to blossom into great writers.

Forgot to mention I have not seen Writing Stands at HOD (so will limit remarks) but have used it with limited success with dds. Tammy
