Bigger Hearts good for 4th grader?

Hi all,
I was just wondering if BHFHG is good for a 4th grader who is 9 yrs old? I know there is an extension package for the history readings, but was also wondering about the Language Arts box and the rest of curriculum also and whether or not it will be academically rich and adequate for a 9 year old 4th grader? In the catalog it said it was for a second or third grader, but my son was only 8 years old in the third grade. Thanks so much in advance!
God bless you all
Charika

Charika,
I'll just move your post over to the Main Board where more moms will see it. All new posts begin on the Main Board.
We do have 4th graders that use Bigger Hearts if they fit well there on the placement chart. Here is the chart:

Depending on what your son has had in the past for grammar, spelling etc. you may need a bit higher level in those areas. Once you've had a chance to check out the placement chart, feel free to come back and share a bit more about your son, and we'll be able to help you even better.
Blessings,
Carrie

Hi there,
I'm not sure I will be too much help, because this will be our first year. But I have a 9 year old 4th grader that will be using Bigger and it looks like it will be great. I do know you can use whatever level of math, grammer, reading, and dictation that you need for your child. When I was ordering, I saw there were lots of moms using this for 9yrold/4th grade. The important thing, is to really look at the placement chart. I can't link you to it, but you can find it on HOD's website. The first boxes (math, reading, language arts) are the most important. And the things listed for each level are the things they are already supposed to have mastered before going into that level, NOT what they will be learning (unless specified). It is recommended to print off the page, and circle the areas that your child is already proficient in. The level with the most boxes circled is probably where they will place best (again, paying close attention to the first several boxes). Hope this helps!

HOD's guides are definitely academically appropriate for their target ages.

Bigger Hearts is for 7-9 year olds, so yes, it is appropriate for a 4th grader. However, HOD is so flexible that it has several options for guides dc of various ages can do. HOD has age spans, so a 9 yo can place several different places. The placement chart is an excellent tool to use to place dc. I have used it myself, and found it to be easy to use and accurate. Dc should be able to do the things noted in the placement chart to be able to do a guide. We can help with that, if you can check out the placement chart and share a bit about where your child places, as well as about the first page of the placement chart (their LA, math, grammar skills specifically). Here is a link to that...

Keep asking questions until you are set to go! This board is full of encouraging ladies with solid advice. I think you'll love HOD - there is so much to love about it!
