I'm thinking ahead. I've been looking at the choices for storytime in Beyond. In the guide it says to plan the books for a certain number of days. Since I don't have the books in front of me, I was just wondering if the time allotment is basically a chapter a day or is it usually more than that? I know it depends on the size of the chapters, but there may be some days where one chapter may be enough for dd. Sorry if this has been asked before, but has anyone taken longer than the days in the guide, and if so, how did that affect getting them done by the end of the guide? I'm just trying to put this all together before we begin.

It depends on the size of the book. Some books we have to split chapters up at least once, if not twice. Some books we didnt' even finish Some books I read a small bit during the day to do school with and then read a couple of chapters at night to try to get through the book. My dd when we did Beyond was NOT ready to listen to much more than 2-3 pages after doing History and Bible and Poetry and HER reading.

I am in Unit 20 of Beyond and I have found most of the storytime books are approximately 100 pages or so. This means stretching the reading over 20 days means about 5 pages/day of reading. In the books so far this has meant it is LESS than a chapter. On the book we are in at the moment there are 18 chapters to the book so rather than stretching it to 20 days and finishing each chapter a few paragraphs before the end of it, I just read 1 chapter/day and we don't finish the storytime instructions for the last 2 days, iykwm. My boy loves these books and can't stand finishing the reading time each day. It is a discipline for us to stop where we are supposed to and not just keep reading!!!

Thanks for the insight. I definitely want to finish every book and the instructions. I would feel like I missed something if I don't. Now my puzzle is to decide which books I'm going to use. So many good ones in each genre.

I think the easiest way to do it is, like Julie described, to take the number of pages in the book and divide it by the number of days that you have to read.

My children just loved the storytime books from Beyond. One of the books, though, was a bit long, and was tough to get through each day. It was The Railway Children. A great book, but it made for some longer reading sessions with a little bit tougher to understand wording. Just a head's up on that book. We had no problem with all the others, and the children wished they could all go on forever!
