which curriculum?

Hi I have a soon to be 5 year old and a 2 1/2 year old. This will be my first year homeschooling. I've looked at the placement chart and I *think* DS would fit under LHFHG. Though I know he could benefit a little from LHTH...but it would be under his skill level mostly. He knows most of his letters and knows quite a few letter sounds. Counting still perplexes him as well as saying his ABC's. Basically, anything he has to put into order verbally he has a rough time with. Yet his memory, when it comes to learning facts, is very strong. He struggles with motor skills (fine and gross) DD is pretty advanced for 2 1/2. She can count well and knows her ABC's. Her vocabulary is at about a 4 year old level. I would like teach them together. Should I get LHTH and supplement for DS? Should I get both curriculum? How can I combine them without DS getting bored or DD getting lost? I thought I would post here for advice from veteran HOD parents. Thanks!

Yes, you can combine them in LHTH. If you want more for the older one, you can buy the LHFHG manual and do the K recommendations on the R hand side.

It sounds like, hearing where your kids place, you can combine them and for the K options we 8arrow suggested. That's what I'd do, given the placement of your kids.

From what you described I think both of your kids would do quite well with LHTH as written! It looks pretty shallow on the surface, but it teaches all the things you described that your ds was having trouble with.

Welcome to the HOD Board, Tiffiny! I think your dc would be well combined in LHTH. I agree with the pps, LHTH will teach your ds all of those skills you mentioned him needing to work on, and it will do so in such a good way. We have loved doing Biblical history chronologically first in homeshcooling with each of our 3 sons in LHTH. It gives such a good foundation to build history upon - "The New Bible in Pictures" is one of our all-time favorite children's Bibles, and the comprehension questions at the end of each story helped our dc learn to truly think about what I was reading to them, rather than to just listen.

LHTH also teaches many skills. We depend on LHTH to teach our dc the ABC's, a letter sound for each letter along with an action (which BTW makes phonics easier), numbers, skip counting by 2's and 3's, beginning coloring/cutting/pasting skills, beginning fine motor skills, memorization of a Scripture verse each week along with singing it, art projects, devotional discussion and application, beginning science/health type activities, and many beginning math skills (see "Introduction" at this link for specific skills)...

I like that LHTH teaches dc to listen and do school for a short amount of time in each subject area, so by the time they get to LHFHG, they are used to that routine of doing school and can handle the increased workload. You can always add the right side of LHFHG for your ds, but I truly think he first needs to the skills LHTH teaches anyway. I think you'll enjoy it as much as we have!
