Daily school schedule

I am new to HOD and will begin Bigger Hearts soon with our 3 boys. My question(s): Do you do "Learning Through History" first and then "Learning the Basics"? Vice versa? Is there a recommendation for the order of the subjects? With previous curriculum we have done the basics first and then often ran out of time to do the others. I'd like to change this. Your suggestions are appreciated! Looking forward to HOD!!!

Thank you!

I used to start the day with "Learning through History" because I thought that would start our day off on a positive note, but then I found my ds was more tired when it was time to do the more demanding subjects, such as English, reading or math. We changed our schedule so now we do "Learning the Basics" in the morning, when my ds is fresh, and the "Learning through History" after lunch. It's worked really well for us. We've also found it helpful to follow a schedule, with each subject scheduled at a specific time, so that we are able to fit in all the subjects without feeling pressured.

126bdays - welcome to the HOD Board! :D We did Bigger Hearts last year with our middle ds (and a few years back with our oldest ds), and enjoyed it immensely! :D We usually started with some LA skills, like dictation and grammar, and then did the "Reading about History" side next. We read the history, and then the rest of the boxes went with it so nicely. I think it's nice to break up the right side, and put the left side in the middle of those skills somehow. I shared our schedule at this link, in case it's helpful, and my ds doing Bigger Hearts is named "Riley" so that's the column that pertains to Bigger Hearts. There are many other wonderful schedules on this thread too...

HTH! I'm looking forward to getting to know you, and as we both have 3 sons, we should have many adventures about our homeschooling journeys to share with one another! :D Life is never dull with 3 boys.

In Christ,
Julie
