need supplemental books for 3rd and 4th graders in Beyond

I mentioned this in my other thread, but since it's buried under all my long-winded discussion about my plans, I decided to start a new thread.

I need book ideas for extra history reading for my 3rd and 4th graders who will be doing Beyond along with my 1st grader. I don't want to use any books that are in the Bigger program, since they will be using that along with extensions next.

Thank you in advance!!!

Are you using the Deluxe Books and if so which package? If you choose the Classic Titles maybe you could get the Girls Interest for your dd and the Boys Interest for your ds and have them use those kind of as extension books?]

Just an idea.

I love sooooo many of the books from the Boys Interest Package and we read them with my dd. So I think they could go for either child.

Edie-
I was mainly looking for books that specifically tie in with the period of history being studied. I am not buying any of the deluxe packages because we already have SO many books here we can use for storytime. It's been a while since I looked at the deluxe packages though; I'll have to revisit those to see if any of them could work for this.

I was thinking you could just choose the Storytime titles that are more history focused, as there are quite a few of them, and they are wonderful! :D We ended up reading the Classics Set of books, but we also enjoyed many of the girl/boy interest sets' titles too, as they were history related - i.e. Benjamin West and His Cat Grimalkin, Little House in the Big Woods, A Lion to Guard Us, The Cabin Faced West, If You Traveled West in a Covered Wagon, Squanto, Sara Whitcher's Story, Phoebe the Spy, If You Lived 100 Years Ago, In Grandma's Attic - just an idea! :D

You could also look ahead to Bigger Heart's Boy/Girl/Classic Storytime Sets and use some of those titles. You'll just want to be sure that you leave at least one selection for each type of literature for a read-aloud in Bigger the next year! :D

Thanks! I organized our book shelves today (no easy task!!!) and found that we own several books that will be suitable for beefing up Beyond for my oldest two. :D I also pulled out books that are used in other HOD guides so that my bookworms won't read them ahead of time!

Tomorrow should be our box day!
