Here I am again. I ordered Little Hearts for younger ds...but after trying it, I believe he's not quite ready at almost 5. I would like to order LHTH. I feel that he needs the teaching of the letters...as the RME lessons do not teach the letter names, just the sounds. This is important to my husband that he learn this..and I had wondered how to schedule it since ds 'missed' learning this when we skipped LHTH. I guess I'm just looking for opinions. I know I've read many posts that say how wonderful the pre-k program is. Could some of you just tell me what you have enjoyed so much about this program...and how it has helped when moving into LHFHG? Thanks so much. Hubby has already approved another purchase (he's so great!) but I just want to make sure I'm informed enough.

I have three programs right now myself and they all look so good. My intention was to do BLHFHG with two of my kids , but found after a couple of days it was to much for my 6yr old. so I too ordered another one LHFHG. We will be starting that next week . Not much help here just that I had the same kind of thing happen too! But they are all great programs and they will not go to waste. I will also be doing LHTH this summer with my 5 and 3 yr. I do think that LHTH does a wonderful job of teaching the letter sounds. I think it sets the foundation for LHFHG in many ways. First of all, children learn the letter sounds and how to do simple actions with them. This is great help later on, when sounding out words, because you can just do the action when they get "stuck", and then they know the sound without having to be told each time. Also, doing the actions with words in LHTH and doing the devotions, prepares children to do the actions along with the Fingerplays and Rhymes in LHFHG. Simply sitting and listening to the Bible in LHTH and doing activities along with it, really prepares children to sit and listen to the longer readings in LHFHG, and do the longer activities with them. The simple art and coloring in LHTH, does a great job of preparing children for the longer art projects and writing in LHFHG. Listening to the Singing Bible in LHTH prepares children to listen more carefully to the music in LHFHG, which they sing along with their Scripture memory verse. The chronological overview from Creation to Paul's missionary journeys in LHTH does a great job of paving the way for the more in-depth chronological overview from Creation to present day in LHFHG. I think you'd be wise to go through LHTH and then do LHFHG. I think your son would love it! I hope that helps somewhat!

Thanks, ladies. I'm placing my order right now. I'll just hold on to Little Hearts...until he's ready. DH has been so supportive with this whole adjustment thing! He said I have a good plan...so it's fine. I appreciate your words of encouragement. I'm ready to get right into LHTH.

Beyond... is going so well for dd...I'm so happy we decided to switch back completely!

I have just started Little Hearts with my DD6 and Little Hands with my DS5. My ds5 also needs to learn the names and sounds of the letters, as well as learn the correct way to write them.

The both love both programs and want to do each other's work I have found that it's not just their academic abilities that have to fit into the program, but it's their developmental abilities, too.

For example, DS5 loses concentration and wanders off halfway through the Bible study for Little Hearts, but his own Bible story from Little Hands is perfect in length - it holds his interest and he makes it all the way to the end, and is able to answer the questions at the end.

Also, the physical activities to develop the motor skills are perfect - he just loves the finger plays etc.

I started school too early with my dd6 because she was begging me for it at 3 yrs old. We took 2 yrs to do MFWK because she just wasn't developmentally ready, and I spent a LOT of time trying to find "filler" that was appropriate for her.

Little Hands is awesome for a 5 year old, and the stories, Bible, fingerplays etc are amazing. It's a WONDERFUL experience, and I would highly recommend that if you can do it, you do!

Take every opportunity to allow school to be active and fun for a young kiddo - they'll be stuck behind desks soon enough

I'm doing the same thing! I tried starting my son in LHFHG (he'll be 5 next month). He's been begging to do school like his siblings. He knows most of his letter sounds because of watching "The Letter Factory" DVD. He also likes to try and write his letters and do activities in his "Get Ready for the Code" book. The problem is that he still needs prompting in recognition of the letter names. He is also very wiggly and does not seem ready for the listening level of the LHFGH program.

So...I bought the LHTH. I was worried in some ways that I'm holding him back, but realize I'm actually helping him. I realize now that one of my other children was not ready for K5(not the same program) and making her take it was hard on her. She ended up having to repeat. She lost alot of confidence and I'm still trying to rebuild it-she's now 10. I should have waited a year with her to begin with.

Anyway, what you are doing is exatly what your screen name says...In His Timing.

I think you've made a good decision. I did LHTH with my second son when he was almost 5, and it was a wonderful confidence builder for him prior to LHFHG. He continues to be on the mid-high age range for our other programs as we go through, but it has been perfect for him.

I think getting the correct first placement in HOD is really important, because after that you can just move through the levels without having to rethink every year. It's kind of like finding the right shoe size. Once you have it, you can be pretty sure of what will fit in coming years!
