Introduction from Aus.

Post by LindaOz » Sat Jun 04, 2011 2:19 am

Hi everyone,

I am very new to HOD and posted a question earlier today, so I thought maybe I should actually introduce myself.

I am Linda, and live in New South Wales, Australia, with my dh and 7 children. We have always homeschooled but I have only very recently discovered HOD. I actually bought a BIGGER manual and books from a used homeschool resource board because I had been reading a bit about it on another site. I just thought I'd have a look and see what it was like. Then I decided to try it out for just a week and see what it was like in action. Two weeks later I've decided to stick with it as I really love it and already I have found it to be working with the two children I have been 'trialling' it with.

So, here I am, probably with a ton of questions which will no doubt come out bit by bit. I am already trying to work out how to transition different dc from their current program over to HOD. Some will complete the school year (we school by calendar year here) with what they have, and hopefully by then I will have worked out which HOD program will be most suitable for each of them. I do know that some will need to combine. My oldest, currently in tenth grade is very happy with the program she is doing, and is probably too old for the HOD programs anyway, so she will stay where she is. Everyone else is open for negotiation....

I'm very excited about the HOD program and I'm looking forward to reading about all your experiences and insights here.

Heelllloooooooooooo Linda ol' friend!!!
Wow! I am so excited to see you are considering HOD!!! Hope and Josiah are loving it....I think it fits well with the style you are used to and it has such an amazing God focus to it and all the ladies on the board here are SO encouraging and helpful!
I am doing Preparing with Hope and Beyond with Josiah and I think as a teacher, you will appreciate the detail that has gone into the manuals to cover all the skills that are needed for your beautiful kiddos and how open and go it is for a busy mum such as yourself!
You know how to contact me if you have any questions, but the ladies here are amazing and will be willing to help you out with your queries too!

Hey Corrie. Good to see you here too. It seems I'm joining HOD club which was kind of unexpected for me, but good :D . I think you're right - it does fit with the style I already know and love. And I do really like the God focus. I have Erin and Samantha (with extensions) doing Bigger Hearts at the moment ('cause that's the manual I bought 2nd hand) and I'm thinking of starting Luke on Beyond when I can get the books in. So far, I think that Bethany and Samantha will do Creation to Christ next year with Bethany doing extensions. Recently, before I really looked at HOD, Samantha told me she wanted to do history that went alongside the Bible so she could see how they fit together - well, I think this is the answer to her wish!! I'm tossing up whether to have Jess do the oldest level next year....unsure about that. Emily will stick with Sonlight which she loves. I even have picked up the Little Hands manual for Alison already even though she's just recently turned one. How's that for forward planning?

So, when are you visiting up this way again? It would be great to catch up. Or maybe we should come and visit you....

Blessings,
Linda

Thanks for your welcome, Carrie. It's so nice to have found a program that really *fits* with the methods I already know and use, yet all put together in a way that makes sense :D . It just *feels* right (as wishy-washy as that may sound). Thanks for all the work you have done. :D

Yay! Another Aussie HODer (is that even a word??? )
And yes, we do have a lot of girls. I tell people we are girl specialists :D Of course, we do have one boy thrown in just to keep us guessing.... It's funny how a boy with 6 sisters can be so totally 'all boy' - but he is!!!

Hey lovely,

We have only ever been back to Singleton once since leaving there....we seem to catch up with Susan F at a few AOG conferences and other than that we have not kept in touch with people. If we are ever around, we will definitley drop in, but you guys are welcome here anytime. We can find enough beds! Lol.
