Hi,

This is only my second time posting here and I had a new question. It has probably been answered here before so forgive me if it has. My daughter is five and we will begin using LHFHG in the fall and can't wait to start. My question is, can you use your own choice of math for this program or is it better to use one of the two options given. I am not sure either one of those is right for my dd and have been looking over some other options. I am definitely going with HOD either way but wondered if anyone else has used a different math program with it. I love Hod's hands on approach, the reading of living books and most of all the Biblical aspect of it. I have looked into several other options and think this one will be the best option for my dd and other three dc in the future. I appreciate any input anyone can give me on this.

Thanks,
Helen

I am using a different math program with my older. She has different needs when it comes to math and Singapore does not fit her learning style.

I do plan on using Singapore with my youngest b/c it works better for her. HOD is great for this purpose. You can change math to fit your dc needs.

Hi Helen,
Welcome to HOD, you and your daughter are in for a wonderful year, I'm excited for you! My daughter and I are one week away from finishing LHFHG for her kinder year. With this being my very first time homeschooling, the choices out there are so many. I tend to get overwhelmed very easy. I was very blessed to come across HOD early on in my research from a good friend who uses it. I'm so thrilled with her progress acedemically and spriritually. With all that being said, I stayed with all the choices Carrie suggested for the program, including Singapore math. I can't speak about any other math programs, because I've never used them, but our year with Singapore was great. What really helped the most was the hands on activities Carrie includes in the TM to correspond with each math page, really making math fun! So without trying any other math program, and only knowing what I know, this math program definitly works for us and me. I have three more little ones that I plan on using this math with when it's their turn, I just really like the way it's presented. HTH.

Hi Helen! :D I am excited for you to begin LHFHG - we loved using this as the one year sweep of history with God's hand in it just set the bar high for our learning right from the start! :D I think you will love it. :D In answer to your question, "Yes", you can use any math you want. That being said, we have been impressed with Singapore math. As it is the scheduled math all the way through HOD's current guides, and it has excellent hands-on activities written in the guide you are using, you may want to give it a whirl. :D Looking ahead, here are some good threads to read about the thoughts behind HOD choosing Singapore that may be helpful to ponder...

Math is a personal choice. HOD chose Singapore for the reasons mentioned in the above threads, and we have found the results to be excellent for both of our dc. However, you are in the driver's seat here. Math doesn't make or break HOD - so pray about it, and you'll know what the Lord is leading you to - HTH! :D

In Christ,
Julie
