Full or Half speed start for new homeschoolers?

Hi!

Next year will be our 1st year homeschooling (coming from ps) and we will be using Bigger for our ds and dd. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to start? Since we are newbies, is it better to go half-speed for a couple of weeks to get our feet wet, or is it better to just jump right in?

Thanks!
Jen

Hi Jen and welcome to homeschooling and HOD!!! :D

I would start half-speed for sure. You may find that it may take a while for your DC to "decompress" and get used to doing school at home, so going half-speed would take some pressure off of you and them, IMO. Then, if you see that they are adjusting well and wanting more you could go ahead and bump it up to full-speed! Praying you have a WONDERFUL first year! :D

I agree with 3sweeties! As this will be new, I'd start with half-speed. You may want to check out this schedules' thread and have some sort of routine or schedule planned ahead of time...

It is a good idea to keep the left side of the plans together in the routine, as all of that side of the plans is centered around the history theme for the day. Otherwise, there is much flexibility in how families set up their days. HTH! :D
