Needing advice on what to do for English

Hello Ladies!
I have a 5th grader who has been using R&S since he was in 2nd grade, so he is currently in the 5th grade book. (We just recently started using HOD, so that is why he is not on the HOD schedule with English). I know with HOD they space it out so that the student will finish the 6th grade book by 8th grade. Originally I was just going to keep him on grade level with R&S, but then I read Carrie's response about how they will use the 7th and 8th grade books in High school, but not the 9th and 10th, since those are primarily about writing and that will be covered in other ways, so it is not needed.
So now I am trying to figure out what to do for my son. He will be in 6th grade come fall and ready to use the 6th grade book. I know I could possibly space it out over 2 years and have it go for 6th and 7th, but that still leaves his 8th grade year with needing something, if I were to go that route. Any one have any ideas on what to do? He is my very academic child, works very well independently, and will hopefully be starting Resurrection to Reformation in the fall. We have been doing Bigger, with extensions for him, as I was hoping to combine him and my 3rd grader, but it is just way too easy for him, even though they are only 2 years apart, he is much more advanced than his brother and he places in RtR according to the placement chart. So I am hoping to be able to put him in that come fall. Hopefully that gives some background info that may help in figuring out what to do. :)
Thank you!
Michelle

Hi Michelle! I think I'd just spread R & S English 6 over 2 years. He can then do R & S English 7 and 8 slowly over his next years, and when he finishes, he's done. :D I think it would be nice to have this wiggle room, but I'm sure you'll get more responses here too. HTH! :D

In Christ,
Julie

shellbell,

I agree! While you could keep on doing as you have been doing with Rod and Staff, I do think that with your son hopping up to RTR there will be plenty of meat in the language arts area there. So, I'd lean toward spreading out English 6 over two years too, and then beginning English 7 after that at the pace of twice weekly. :D It is possible then that by the time your son's a senior he will be already be done with English 8 and could just be done with grammar instruction at that point, shifting toward using Rod and Staff's English Handbook (which is excellent) to guide him as needed for written work his senior year. :D We're already using Rod and Staff's handbook now, with my oldest son, for some of the composition he did in Smarr this year (even though we're still doing Rod and Staff English 7 twice weekly). It was great to look things up easily and has wonderful examples! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
