I will be using Preparing next year and would like to know what dictionary you use. We live in a small town with no big book store, so it's not easy to get my hands on the different ones and Amazon isn't much help. So any suggestions on dictionaries that you love or hate would really help me and maybe a why with it wouldn't hurt. Thanks!

I think the guide recommends Webster's.

Ok, I say that but then when I go to Rainbow Resource and Amazon and I see choices. Merriam-Webster, Webster's New World, New American Webster, etc. I feel so silly that I can't figure this one out, but I just don't see a "Webster's Dictionary" anywhere. Oh well, I'll keep searching and find something. God will clear my mind and help me. Maybe I need sleep.

I'm pretty sure that Carrie and Julie have said they have a Webster's Collegiate dictionary. After going through Bigger and Preparing, I can tell you that you'll actually have an easier time finding the words in Perparing than in Bigger due to the vocabulary of the history readings.

We have a different collegiate dictionary that my husband got in high school that has worked for us. A "children's dictionary" with cute pictures will be totally useless almost all of the time. It just won't have the words that you're needing to know. :D

We do use a Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary. It is an older version, which I think is better, as the new versions include slang terms. There are many versions available, in hardcover and softcover. They are inexpensive and extensive enough to include all of the words looked up in HOD. HTH! :D

In Christ,
Julie

We use my Webster's Collegiate that I received as a gift when I graduated high school (in 1981, cough!).
