Need Help

Hello. My daughter just turned 7. She is really well in Math, English, Science and History but really does not like spelling and reading. On Spelling she is probably a very early 1st grade level or even late kindgergarten and for reading she is probably on an early first grade level! What do you suggest that I use? Do you think the 6-8 yr old kit would be ok for her with emergent reader books?

Thanks so much

Have you looked at the placement chart? It sounds like your daughter might fit well into Beyond with one of the phonics choices (instead of the emerging reader set) and the 1st grade spelling list. The emerging readers start at a 2nd grade level and advance from there. :)

Welcome to the HOD Board! We're glad to have you here. :D Sara did a great job of helping you, so I'll just move this post over to the Main Board where even more moms will see it. All new posts begin on the Main Board. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

My son is a struggling reader. He's in LHFHG now and we'll move to Beyond in the fall. I'll continue with his phonics instruction and introduce the ER set as he's ready. That's the lovely thing about HOD. It's easy to make it fit each child, esp in the areas of reading & math.

My daughter is almost 8. She is just finishing up Little Hearts and will begin Beyond in August. Although she has made great strides in her reading, she still struggles. My plans are to continue using a phonics program with Beyond, and gently begin using ER books as was mentioned previously. I will take them at a slower pace if needed. It sounds like your daughter may be along the same track, so you probably could do something similar. Your going to love HOD! :D
