Planning on what types of supplies (notebooking, etc.) for each of the children. Do you use composition books, loose-leaf, spiral? We have tons of art supply items, so I'm not too concerned with that just now.

I will likely have 1in LHFHG, 1 in Beyond and 1 in Preparing. I tried to look though the old threads for some organizational tips but gave up 6 pages back. :?

It's terrible but I can't really remember what we used in LHFHG. I'm thinking a binder with a few dividers would probably be more than sufficient. For Beyond, we just used one binder (1 1/2 inches I think) with dividers. I can't remember for sure what our dividers were, but I think we had one for spelling/grammar, one for copywork, one for art/misc, etc. One binder with several dividers worked well for that year.

After doing Bigger this year and running out of room in one binder, I'm thinking of doing a few more binders this fall for Preparing. My plan is to use one binder (probably 1 to 1 1/2 inches) for the History notebook, a similar binder for the Science notebook, and then one other big binder to keep all of the other papers in like grammar, copywork, other art projects, extra math sheets, etc. We use one of the composition notebooks for our dictation. Some people also use one of those for grammar. I usually have my dc do their grammar on regular notebook paper and then store it in the binder. I found out in storing papers in binders that they stay much better if they are in the plastic sleeves. So for the history and science notebook and for some of the subjects in the big notebook, I'll use the plastic page protectors. That's one thing that I'm going to be looking for a big package at a great price when school supplies go on sale. Those page protectors are great! :D

That's all I can think of right now that we'll be using. I'm sure I'm forgetting at least one thing. A good idea to help you plan out what you will need for the year is to read the Introduction for each guide. It will help you figure out what you need for the year. I haven't read through my Preparing introduction with supplies in mind yet so I'll probably think of something else I need when I do that. :D

Maybe I can help some.

LHFHG some helpful supplies would be masking tape and some unlined white paper. I also used construction paper, paints, etc. I didn't purchase a binder or a notebook for storing work.

Preparing: INDEX CARDS!!! A file box to store vocabulary cards and the ABC dividers as well. I also used a binder, dividers, page protectors,a composition notebook for dictation, and grammar. Notebook paper, unlined paper and a common place book are necessary, too.

HTH,
Dawn

Thanks ladies for your help. We just had our county review yesterday afternoon, so I'm really trying to get into prep mode while all his critiques are still fresh in my mind.

I appreciate your suggestions! I really need to be on the ball this coming school year and I'm very thankful that HoD is going to help me do that!

Have fun to be organizing for your year! :D Here are a few past threads that may be helpful...

This is kind of a fun past thread about this topic too...

I always like to sit down with my favorite cup of coffee and thoroughly read through the "Introduction" of each guide. I jot in the margins the materials I want to use (as there are often different options that are suggested), and then make my shopping list from that. Plus, it just gets me excited to start! :D HTH!

In Christ,
Julie
