Well, my son is done with his work for the most part (not doing HOD this year  ) So I asked my dd who is doing Preparing if she wanted to be done and she replied, "NO! I only have 4 more units and it will be all over. I am not quitting early!" We are having a great time and it just isn't the drudgery of a year that we've had with the older son. My youngest (LHFHG) is not ready to stop either, so we are continuing, but not burning out. I have tried other curriculum (this year especially with the oldest) and I have always felt burned out by May 1. Never with HOD.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

No burn out here. My oldest's last day of school is May 26th and he graduates June 5th. He's READY! However, I think that's senior excitement, not burn out. My youngest wants to be done with "school" which to him is phonics/reading and math. He asks me to read the history and storytime books all the time and hates when I can't. Thankfully, we have shelves and shelves of books so he can pick from them.

Oh, I totally get spring burnout! Every year around this time I start fantasizing about unschooling, lol. I just keep plugging along and remind myself that I am *so blessed* to be able to homeschool my kids. :)

We don't get end of the year burnout.... we get spring fever :) Which is why we take our big break in April every year.... beautiful weather and all that! But we school year round, so I can't say that we've ever had burnout?

I do feel a little burn out ....and we are only 1/2 thru our guide! This is my first year homeschooling for real...and truthfully there are some days I envy the parents who send their children off to school for the day....YET.....my daughter has just blossomed this year!! She has adjusted to being home ...although sometimes gets a little lonely...she is active on a swim team 3 days a week and gymnatics 1 day a week...but I think she has struggled a bit...with being an *only* child...(older two are grown) and she would like some conversation with someone her age when school is over for the day!

I am working hard to get on a real school schedule so that we can take off the summer next year! I think I feel burned out due to still having so much to do....and I want to some stuff this summer...yet it feels like school will need to be a priority....

I remind myself that just because something is easier for me...ie..sending my child to school...does not mean it is the best thing for my child...and she is right where she needs to be...she is learning!! She is growing!!! She is happy!!! So hey I will just get over the blues of not taking the summer of so we can be more on target next school year when we start Bigger...which brings lots of fear in my heart when I think of the *huge jump up* in skills and longer days I have read about! I try to remind myself to just enjoy where we are right now...and not future trip to much...God will give me what I need when I need it!!! Beth in Idaho

HOD helps with my "burn out" because there is always something new on tap! My kids are having some spring fever and we are looking forward to summer, but we do so enjoy our school days. I am sure after about two weeks of summer, all three of us will be ready to start back to doing some school! LOL We always do!

ETA: I have two children and we are using two different guides (CTC and Beyond).

I'm not burned out on homeschooling, but I was very burned out on winter. It just went on and on this year in SD, but then again, that's why we finished homeschooling early. The perfect day to homeschool is when it's blizzarding outside, and we sure had enough of that this year. Doing multiple guides for my dc has helped me guard against burnout. Each of them opens their guide with delight knowing they can do each and every part of the plans with confidence. Our living books are each geared to what they can truly enjoy listening to, their activities are things they can each really do, our conversations are personal and well-matched to their maturity level both skill-wise and spiritually, and they are each schooling an amount of time appropriate for their age. All of this works together to help them feel confident and joyful about their homeschooling days! They each feel so valued within our day, and all have something to share about what they've learned around the table at lunch and supper. Our family is so close because of the way we homeschool. I think this guards against burnout, and makes our homeschooling days something to treasure. Don't get me wrong - we all need a break sometime - and we are on it now. But we finished our year strong, and we can look back on it with contentment. We can also look forward to next year with great anticipation of another wonderful year, but we need the summer to get the house in order. Housework... or maybe house upkeep and organization would be better terms... now THAT I may be burned out on... but school... nope. :D

I ditto the Spring Fever! We are doing more outside activities and field trips so our HOD book is not getting used as much right now. They still do their basics though. We are planning to h'school year round, so I am not really worried about it. Trying not to be anyway :P. I feel like I am behind, but oh well. They are doing very well in everything, and I am glad I live in a state that doesn't require a lot of oversight! :P :P Sometimes, unschooling for a week is quite refreshing and fun to see just what all they explore on their own. And it can help cure burnout!

Yes I think that is what I am experiencing too now that I re-evaluate!!! We have had a very long winter...and even snowed a bit a couple weeks ago!! So...today is sunny...and we are suppose to have sun for 2 days before rain and thunder storms arrive again!!!

I also think my mind is thinking we should be done....with school and only half way there...due to our start date.....so going to just work hard and have a cut off date for July 31st.....to take off the month of August...and I think that will get me ready for Sept!!

We had a little bit of a hard year this year. We got a late start and some struggles. I got burned out on some of that stuff. But I got to say never have I been more grateful for HOD. It has been a life saver this year. My kids have not suffered at all for all the disruption. We will end later this year but we tend toward year round anyway. Have to say as it gets hotter I start to feel better about having a later break when the weather is cooler.

I understand burnout. I had it a lot over the last couple years. This year, since switching to HOD, It's not really burnout I'm feeling. I'm excited about next year. I'm going to be doing LHTH with my 4 year old over the summer, even as my 11 year old takes a summer break. I am looking forward to a slower schedule and a bit of a break for awhile though. It's not really burnout as much as it is just wanting to be outside, enjoying the warm weather, after what feels like a very long winter. I too have a child graduating from Homeschool, so there's all that planning to be done as I finish up the school year with one dd. Plus, I'm finishing up some Kid's Church stuff for the end of the year. A break from many things is needed, but not from homeschooling.

I will say I am not burned out with the HOD stuff. I am excited about next year. The stuff that has me feeling burned out right now is the High School stuff. Very tired of grading things and making sure all is lined up for her transcript. Also since I haven't been able to do HOD with her I have had to do extensive research for next year. Finally have that done and now I have to write lesson plans for every subject over the summer. That is where my burn out can come in, but then I realize I am very blessed to have her home for her last 3 years of school. I never thought that would happen. She will be gone from our home all too soon and I know I will wish she were here. I am thankful for HOD though it sure makes things so much easier.

LOL! I had to laugh at Julie! We live in MN and you must have sent those blizzards over the boarder to us! LOL! ;) I was so glad to be homeschooling during those blizzards, the children where happily busy and it gave me something to do too! It has been a very loooooong winter! That makes this spring so sweet! :) As I was out walking with the baby at 9 last night, I was thanking the Lord for providing such a nice hot day, and anouther wonderful summer with peaceful walks.
