It is Mother's Day, and I promised myself we'd hold off on starting homeschool till after I was done teaching at the Christian school!!!

However, DD came in wanting to read some "books on the shelf in the closet" (where I have LHFHG right now) and I told her we'd have to wait to read those books till we started school. I feel like I need to strike while the iron's hot so I'm headed in there to get my TM and all my books for today! Here we go!

It was a great day! There were a couple of bumps, but I would expect nothing less from no preparation at all and a really quick pass through our subjects.

We did it half speed. DD and I did the history reading (pp 1-3, "His Story"), including the family tree. We also did the Science Exploration. Now, in Alaska, we have about 17 hours of daylight at this point, so what we have to do is go into the bathroom to get darkness. The only thing is, the flashlight didn't work! Oh well! I think DD got the jist of it.

Then, we did the right side; well, most of it. DD started with math. I don't think we're going to be able to start with math. She's just like me; I am currently teaching math at the Christian school! She wanted to do an entire page instead of just part of it, so I offered her the rest of the page as a reward for getting Reading and Phonics done. We then did her "Do It Carefully," and two pages of Reddy Fox until DS2 jumped in and wanted to do "A" (his school book, LHTH). We've done it before. DD kind of shut off after that, saying she was done because DS wanted to "do school." I told her we would finish, and, well, we didn't. We didn't get phonics done, but I do consider it a successful day.

When asked what we studied in History, she said that it was "His story" and that Jesus was around from the beginning. I was pretty happy with that.

YEA!

I forgot to add that all of this only took us like 40 minutes! :) And I get the chance often to recommend HOD. The most recent time was yesterday. :)

Recap for today:

- History for Little Pilgrims pp 1-3
- Science Exploration Dark --> Light
- Math 1 assignment
- Phonics 1 assignment
- Reddy Fox pp 1-4

and then DD went to town on a workbook I gave her just for the fun of it.

I have been vacillating between doing LHTH and LHFHG with her, but I figure she'll actually get both. DS2 stuck his nose in some during our lesson, so she'll probably still get LHTH before it's all said and done! So I did the left side at half pace and all of the right side. We'll do 3-4 days a week and then a co-op on Fridays. I'll probably do the 3R's with her every day. She is motivated enough!!!

So...all told, she and I had SO much fun! I love this curriculum already...even just after the first day!!!
