CTC & Girl Interest Pack

CTC looks like it's the first year that you can order the Girl Interest pack as opposed to the History Pack for the Storytime box, right? Which I already did! :D

So if I do the Girl Interest pack instead of the history pack, is there a reason I can't use these for DITHOR as well? Is it because they're pretty long books? It looks like the genres are covered.

Annaz,

Maybe I'm not understanding your question correctly, but I believe the Girls Pack is for Read Alouds. Are you asking if you could use the Girl Pack for DITHOR and choose different Storytime Read Alouds (like maybe the history ones instead)? DITHOR is written only (I think) for the books that your children read to themselves.

Yes, the Girl's pack is a choice for the Storytime box in CTC. I knew dd wouldn't enjoy some of the books from the history pack, so I went with the Girl's pack instead. I wanted to know if I can use these for DITHOR as well.

Annaz,
I'm still not understanding how you can use the same books for both Read-Alouds and Readers for the same child. I think I'm still not understanding your question. :)

Hi,
Storytime and DITHOR books are supposed to be different. I think that is what you are asking. I keep wondering the same thing. The storytime is supposed to be read by you and there are certain skills you would be working on. DITHOR is meant to be read fully by the student and the skills learned there are different as well. Seems like you should be able to combine them in order to make things shorter and simpler by just using one book, but I guess it is not a good idea. I asked the same question ealier, but I cant link right now....I will try to pop on soon and give you the answers I received. Everyone is really helpful here!!

Yes Mercy, that's what I was asking.

My guess is that the books aren't leveled (more difficult) and they're longer? But I'm always trying to kill two birds with one stone. :D

Yeah, I think you are right on that. ;-) And mee too! I just like to streamline my time as much as possible if you know what I mean. Guess we're just busy mamas trying to cut out where we can. I don't want to sacrifice my children's education though & I know that everything in HOD really truly does have a purpose.

I found my post where it was answered. I was asking for the younger years (beyond & bigger), but it is still applicable I think.

Just re-read the posts and Julie really gives a detailed reason for why they should be seperate. I just so appreciate it when she & Carrie give their thoughts on these things. It really cements the WHY in my mind. :D :D

Looks like you got your question answered about the difference between storytime and DITHOR. I just wanted to add that the actual books within the "girl interest pack" for CTC could be used for DITHOR. Now, I'm pretty sure that Carrie picked them because they make great read-alouds. But, if your child is reading at the appropriate level and you wanted to choose one or any of those books for DITHOR, you sure could! I'm pretty sure moms have done that already - especially before Carrie completed the last 3 packs of books for DITHOR that she's come up with. If you were doing that you wouldn't want to have read any of those titles for storytime though.

We just finished CTC last week! It was a GREAT learning experience. Grant's already chomping at the bit for RTR. (I'm sure he'll thoroughly enjoy our summer break  , but he took a peek at the HOD catalog and saw the great books coming and is pretty excited to get to read them!) We'll get there in August. Enjoy CTC!!

Thanks! This is really what information I needed to know, even though that other link was really great. I don't know how I missed that description of Dithor & Storytime lessons. But yes...not to skip Storytime for Dithor, but to solely use the same books. I know the days would be off in Dithor, which could prove a problem. CTC is the first level I think that does this Interest pack choice FOR the Storytime box. So that may be why it's confusing.

I'm glad to hear you loved CTC! It does look good, that's for sure!

Annaz,
I'm glad you got your question answered. I'll insert one more piece of info here...it is important to note is DITHOR is meant to be used after your child reads his/her book (not after they have been read to) so that is the reason you cannot "kill two birds with one stone" and use the same book for DITHOR that you are reading as a Read Aloud.
