Hi Everyone,
I have figured out what to do for my 8 and 10 yo sons, now I am focusing on my 12 yo dd and 14 yo ds, who will be 8th and 9th grade next school year. Time & skill wise the Rev. to Rev. Guide would be where they are. I am just wondering how those of you who have older children using one guide work it out throughout the day for their independant work? I have the Diana Waring World Empires, World Missions, World Wars Curriculum for next year, but Rev. to Rev. keeps calling to me. I LOVE the lay out. I Love that it has explicit instructions/directions for both the student and the teacher. I have been struggeling to make these two more independant and failing miserably at it for the last 5 years since we started our homeschool journey. I wish I would have found HOD sooner, but I am content with the fact that God blessed me with the knowledge of this curriculum now! Anyway, thanks for your input, I just can't seem to wrap my brain around how to have them "share".

I leave the guide open on the kitchen counter and put the books out next to it. We do have a schedule for sharing but also the visual element of, "Oh, no one is using the history book right now." For example, have one start with science and one start with history.......etc. It is not difficult.

Sarah - It sounds like you have a good plan for your dc in place - hooray! 8arrows gave some good advice already, so I'll just add that because they will each have their own Student Notebooking pages, that will help them organize their work well separately, as well as give them each their own "visuals" for the activities matching the guide. The boxes that are independent are noted with an "I" too, so you could have them start on different "I" boxes and then move on from there. One other idea I had that has worked for us (though we are not sharing guides), that I think may work for this situation as well is to have a teaching block of time with each child. Though they will be in the same guide, will they be in the same LA and math? If not, you could do one of their LA/math lesson while the other used the teacher's guide to work on their independent things, and then you could switch and teach the other child. In case this is not making sense, here is a copy of our current schedule so you can see how this works in our home...


I don't think it will be tough to share things, but hopefully some of these ideas can help! I think you will love your homeschooling days with HOD - we sure do!
