I am sure you are not surprised. LOL
Ok so the way we do things is I do all my reading to my son at one time. I like to get my part out of the way first. Then we sit down with all the workbook stuff (and I have added somethings so more than LHFHG has scheduled) Today I felt a bit overwhelmed with all there was to do. I don't think my son did but I don't want him to get that way. There is not that much really just doing it all at once one right after another.
So my question is how can I break that up and not lose him for the rest of the day. KWIM I need him to stay focused. Thanks.
Yet another question LOL

I also like to get all the reading done, but I've found that it actually works better to break it up. Do a reading, then an assignment, then a reading, then a project, that sort of thing. That way, your son doesn't get burnt out on his assignments (we add in a few workbooks, too), and you don't lose your voice.
Also, the readings don't start to jumble up in his head that way. It doesn't take any more time, but it does make it easier to keep focused. HTH!

I agree break it up. Plan it so what he doesn't care for is followed by something he likes as much as possible. Also after a lot of seatwork, it would be time to go outside, then bring him back with something he likes. A good read and a snack. Make it enticing, but I know it doesn't always work for Mom.

Re: Yet another question LOL
We broke it up a bit today and he seemed to like that a lot. We will just see.
I think It will be easier for me to break up the Beyond. I was looking over it today.

Kim,
The ladies have done a great job of helping you, so I'll just share a couple more things for you to ponder too. First off, I'd lean toward doing LHFHG as written without any additions in the early part of your day. Since this will be your "core" program, get a routine going with it before adding in extras. When you do add in anything extra, save it for after lunch, so there is a definite end time to your LHFHG part of the day each day.
When my little one is up and has eaten breakfast, I often do a couple of boxes from the right side of the LHFHG plans first at the table. Then, I have that little one take a break to play for 20-30 min. We set the timer so my little honey knows exactly how much playtime there will be before he must return to his "school". In this way, I'm not dragging him away from his playtime in a random fashion, and he is expecting to return to his school subjects when the timer rings.
Then, we do the left side of the guide together in one 30 min. sitting. I leave the bottom left hand box to do last, because that is the box that can go on a bit longer. During the 30 min. that we do the left side of the guide, I make sure that we have no interruptions. I plan for 30 uninterrupted minutes and make sure the rest of my household is engaged and not popping in on me if at all possible during that time.
Then, (in the past when I had a LHFHG person) we took a recess break with all kiddos having a 30 min. recess. Next, my LHFHG person came inside and did the remaining two boxes from the right side of the LHFHG guide. I tried to do this before lunch if at all possible, but if it wasn't possible because everyone needed feeding, then we did the two remaining boxes right after lunch. Then, your LHFHG person is done!
One more thing to ponder as you set up your routine is that it is so helpful to alternate inspirational subjects with more disciplined subjects. Here a past thread where I discussed this. Link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2125
Blessings,
Carrie
