I received my catalog today!

I was looking at the future programs and noticed that I would need to skip one eventually...........

DD who will be 10 in August will be starting PHFHG in July. I was mapping out the progression and it looks like this:

5th grade: PHFHG
6th: CtC
7th: RtR
8th: RevtRev

the next release is Modern Times 1900-present

then the High School series:
Geography Through History
World History
American History up to 1900 and Government
American History 1900 to Present and Economics/Personal Finance

So I am assumming I would skip Modern Times 1900-Present and goto the first Highschool series since modern times 1900-present is covered later? Or am I missing something?

then the new guides would place like this:

Geography Through History: 8th

I end up with nothing for 12th.........

So do I do one at half pace? if so where?

Here is my thinking: DD [9] ...we are pretty much repeating 4th grade.....so I wont have to skip any of the guides.

So my course will be as follows for both girls.....I think...LOL

Little Hearts: Kindergarten [DD 5 starts in July]
Beyond:First Grade
Bigger: 2nd and 3rd
Preparing: 4th grade [DD 9 starts in July]
CtC: 5th grade
RtR: 6th grade
RevtRev: 7th grade
Modertimes 1900-present: 8th
Geography thru History: 9th
World History: 10th
American History up to 1900: 11th
American History 1900-present: 12th

This Keep DD #1 on track and puts DD #2 in the guides at the mid-age range instead on the young side.

I am a planner too - which is so funny cuz, I don't seem to stick with what I have planned, but I just ordered my box for Preparing.

DD is finishing up "2nd" grade. We didn't use HOD last year

My plan right now is to start Preparing and go 1/2 time for a while. I figure we will speed up eventually, and then towards the end, pause and hit the points in American history (using Bigger as a topical guide) before finishing Preparing. My dd was burned out on American history and wanted a break. We seriously have covered alot (as she was REALLY into it for a while there)

Now I may get my box and decide - NOPE we need to be in Bigger, but from the charts, I think she will be fine in Preparing, especially if we start out slow.

That's my plan for now tho....now just when to start.

So your DD 9 will essentially repeat 4th grade, using Preparing, and graduate as an 18 yr old? Sounds good to me.

Another idea for your DD 5 would be instead of taking 2 years to do Bigger, do LHFHG, Beyond and Bigger all 4 days per week, and maybe with a few units at half speed (especially when you start Bigger) to get into the swing of each new guide. Doing that could stretch those 3 guides over 4 years of school and DD 5 would start Preparing in 4th. Also, then both your DD's would be schooling with HOD 4 days per week. It would mean that the units of LHFHG, Beyond and Bigger would be broken up over the weeks, but I think the benefits of that scheduling would outweigh the "untidiness".

Yes....DD will turn 10 in August...so she would graduate at 18 since we are technically re-doing 4th grade.

I think I like the idea of doing the 4 day plan with the lower grade plans with DD #2 to stretch it out......it will give me a chance to focus a lot on reading, writing and math and go at a slower pace to ensure retention and mastery.

I am in the same situation with my dd as you are. My dd is finishing up Preparing as a fifth grader. I have thought ahead and I haven't really made any definite plans. I don't want to skip a guide because each guide has skills that I don't want my dd to miss. I have thought about speeding up. Since the younger programs can be stretched out, I have thought about using some of the 4 day programs and doing 5 days straight through (4 years in 3). I worry that it might be too much though, even though the number of days works out fairly well. I think I'll wait until we begin CTC to see how my dd handles the workload.
There's also the option of just doing the program straight through and using extensions the final year to meet all the high school credit requirements. This is what I have come up with so far. It isn't really a concrete plan. I am going to see how my dd does with CTC... and wait to see how God leads.
