Discovering how complete HOD is

I gave my dh the choose of what history to do next after we complete LHFHG. His chooses were World Cultures, Ancient History or US History. (Translation Sonlight core k, Sonlight core 1 or HOD BLHFHG) He said World Cultures.  In my head we were going to follow HOD

So now come the fall unless he changes his mind we will do Sonlight core k. This means I need to find Bible, Science and Language Arts. We will stick with Singapore for Math. We are currently doing BLHFHG for LA so I guess theoretically I could do Rod and Staff 2 but I have to schedule it myself. I have no clue for Bible, Spelling or the rest of LA subjects. Science I am leaning toward Noeo or Sonlight.

Man I didn't realize how complete HOD was until now. I'm hoping he will change his mind or we will come back because I think I am already becoming homesick a bit.

Hi Sarah:

My very first curriculum buy was Sonlight K. My thoughts are that you have quite a while to work on your DH!

I don't understand Sonlight I guess. They have such complicated reading, reading, reading...did I say reading? I know your son is advanced. But IMHO, I think like Carrie! It's best to save the technical stuff and heavy stuff for when children are better able to understand what they are really about. Kids can't process this information as it should be. Why not let him get a basic understanding of his own country to have something to apply World Cultures to first? Couldn' t you add in some world culture material as it relates to HOD topics? That would be cheaper, easier to do as you don't have to find 3 other subjects and pay that horrendous price!

Not bashing sonlight or telling you what to do by any means. But I just feel it's my duty as a neighboring Arizona homeschooler to steer you away from the "other" guy. It just seems it would be easier to add to HOD than to spend $400 when you have to find more subjects to add. I'm sure you could find something your DH would like for $400, now couldn't you? Little bribery never hurt anybody!

Okay, I've done my duty, I'll go back in my corner now.

    Well I haven't added it all up yet if we were to switch. It is possible the price tag will change his mind, especially since we will be adding Rosetta Stone to the mix as well.

Oh and core k with a turning 7 yr old doesn't seem quite so bad but I am ready to be done with things labeled k for a while.

I found that out last week when I was looking forward to Bigger for next year. I made a list of things I wanted to cover, worried that I might have to add in here or there. Not to worry, Carrie has it all laid out for you (and us!) and it's really pick up and go. I can't tell you how much this means to me, and especially not to have my head spinning around with all the choices of things to do! I have really found peace lately with my choice of HOD, and my dh is happy with it too. He sees what a change in our schooling it has made, and we have truly been blessed with Carrie's hard work!
