I'm planning on my 8th grader using Rev to Rev in the fall with the extension pack and without the science pack. (This will be our family's first time with HOD)
I would like to start dithor in the fall if I can get all of my materials together, but for sure 2nd semester. I'm looking through my catalog and the website and can't find recommendations for use with my 8th grader. He's an average reader, neither slow nor advanced. I would like some books at an 8.0 + reading level.
Any suggestions?
Thank you so much!!!

Well I'm antsy and decided to see what I could come up with poking around the internet. Does anybody have any experiences positive or negative with these titles for an 8th grader?
Biography - Old Hickory by Marrin
Adventure - The 39 Steps by John Buchan
Historical Fiction - The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter
Fantasy - The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin
Mystery - Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
Folk Tale - The Golden Fleece by Padraic Colum
Non-fiction - 30 Seconds over Tokyo
Humor - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Realistic Fiction - The Contender
Is it insane to pick out books before I have the guide in hand? Probably. I'm a compulsive planner.

Rebecca,
I'll just move this post over to the Main Board as that is where all new posts begin. This folder is for archived threads for DITHR.
As far as DITHR goes, for an 8th grader, you may wish to take a peek at some of the suggestions I gave as possibilities for the various genres in the high school thread. Link here:

Otherwise, there is a Sample Book Ideas List that comes with your purchase of the DITHR Teacher's Guide and Student Book that may be of help to you in book choosing too.
Blessings,
Carrie
