writing in RevtoRev??

We are going to be new to HOD in the fall. Using RevtoRev with my 13 yo dd. I see that it schedules in "The Wonderful World of Creative Writing". My dd is a very strong creative writer. What she does lack, is outlining/research reports/essay skills. Will this be covered at all? Or is the only focus going to be on creative writing?

We are doing Rev to Rev next year and from what I can see from looking at the book, it is just creative writing.

I'm sure others more knowledgeable will chime in, but I do know in addition to the creative writing book, your dd will learn some of the other skills (outlining, research, etc.) in R&S English. Yes. I saw that. But Carrie does not mention anything about RevtoRev. I do not want to just focus on Creative Writing all year. So if there is other things scheduled in, like outlining, essays, and research reports, I would like to know. At this age(middle school), we should be applying our grammar knowledge to more writing. And especially on the research end.

We did not do RTR that used the IEW program(Which is excellent BTW). I wish that would be scheduled in for RevtoRev(Maybe American History based writing??)

Since we are new to HOD, we have not done any of the previous writing in HOD.

Anyone know if there are other things scheduled for writing?

If not, I am going to use Stack the Deck possibly.

And as far as English, we are going to use R+S 5 instead of 6.

Yes, hopefully someone with more details will respond! I do know that written narrations and written research are part of RTR, and those skills are surely continued and expanded in RevtoRev.

I can tell you that Rod and Staff 5 covers all those things. It covers it in a gradual way, but my ds is doing 5 this year with CTC and it covers note taking, outlining and I saw that today's lesson moves on to writing reports. Also I haven't looked closely at Rev to Rev yet, but I did want to encourage you to not just look at the writing program that is used, but all the other writing activities that are in the guide. I know in RTR each week my ds will be filling out information on an important person. The questions he will answer are fairly open ended and will be great practice for things he should look for when writing reports.

I would also add that you can subsitute any writing program that you would like in place of the Exciting World of Creative Writing without affecting the rest of Rev to Rev. HOD is flexible that way.

We have been traveling quite a bit as of late, so I haven't forgotten you or your questions, but I also haven't been near my copy of The Exciting World of Creative Writing to give you a more in-depth view of its coverage.

I remember that water2wine had reviewed this particular resource a bit more in-depth upon receiving it, but I just cannot find her comments on it right now. Perhaps she will know where that thread can be found.

When, paired with Rod and Staff grammar and the writing across the curriculum found within Rev2Rev, you'll find that this particular writing course does much more than cover only creative writing.

The ladies have done a great job of helping you see where many of the other needed topics within writing are covered through what we have scheduled within Rev2Rev. We are always seeking balance in the area of writing, and language arts specifically, so this resource reflects that balance for this particular guide. Once you have it in hand, I think you'll be able to see that there is much more to it than meets the eye.
