My 8th grader...

Post by ChristyH » Tue Apr 26, 2011 4:35 am

First off, yes I am an early riser and using my computer first thing wakes me up. Then I read my bible. If I switch it around I don't remember as much of what I read, because I am still sleepy.

Now on to important stuff. Despite my signature, my dd is still 13 and won't be 14 until early June, it was just easier to put in when I did my signature. Anyway, she wants to graduate when she turns 18 which means starting in the fall she would have to be 9th grade. She has not been not academically inclined and perhaps I didn't do a good job with her, she being my first and all. We use Saxon for math and are almost done with 7/6, we are using Apologia General Science and are just writing across the curriculum, using MFW 1850 to Modern Times. Except for her writing and reading level, she is making barely a C in science and math has been a struggle, such 1.5 years doing 7/6. Personally, I think maybe she is a late bloomer and she isn't "me". She wants to go to college for either writing or piano and she loves little kids..so not me  . We have schooled year round to get it set up for her to start her freshman next fall.

Could she be considered 9th grade using Saxon 8/7 and Apologia Physical science (and other curriculum)? Should I hold back? We were planning on using MFW Ancients but I don't want her to drown. Science and math have always been her weak points. One or two people have mentioned beefing up CTC, which we had planned to use for our boys, to a high school level. Keeping track of that seems scary, when MFW had it all planned out for me. Maybe I should postpone high work until January of 2011. Money is tight so I can't afford to have her tested right now to see what level she is at.

Any comments or suggestions?

Hi Christy,

I replied what we are doing for high school in another post that you may have gotten, but "keeping track" of beefing up CTC for high school really isn't hard at all. It's all still planned out for you--you just add in any extras that you may want, and using higher level literature for the reading times.
Love in Christ,
