Can I replace some pages - Carrie?

I had an unfortunate incident today. I had the baby on the floor this morning, so dd7 and I were sitting down with her during some of our reading. We then went to the table to do some written work and I forgot to pick up the LHFHG guide. Needless to say, the baby rolled to it, and EVERYTHING she gets her hands on goes in her mouth. So, my guide has a few pages that look like someone took a bite out them. Is there any way to replace them? My guide is in good shape otherwise, so I hate to keep it the way it is. What can I do? :(

We had a guide accident this week too! :? We were doing the "water to wine" activity in LHTH, and I unwisely had BOTH of my guides close by. My sweet 4 year old daughter accidentally knocked over one of our glasses that was filled with water, and BOTH of my guides got wet. The Beyond guide got the brunt of it. I thought it was going to be bad, but it turns out that only two pages were damaged: they are a bit wrinkled and stiff. But we can still use them. :D

I understand your disappointment, though! I'm planning to using my Beyond guide with at least two more children, so I'd like it to be useable for a long time to come. If you can still read the guide pages, maybe your guide will be okay the way it is? :D (I hope this comes across as kindly as I intend it!)

Thanks. I just couldn't believe it when I saw the guide. Mine is more than wrinkled. There is a good piece out of several pages plus wrinkles and other tears. So, I can't leave it the way it is, because it will tear some more. I think I have a way to fix it up, since only one page had a few words affected. The pieces missing are just under the boxes.

So, Carrie, disregard my question. Just got a little excited when my guide got damaged. :)

Sorry that I had to chuckle a little. But only because I would be a little excited too...and that is EXACTLY why I took the binding off my all my guides and put all pages into page protectors and into 3-ring binders. Now they are coffee, juice and baby mouth proof!

Hoping you can get replacement pages!

I have a lump in the middle of my Bigger guide now where I spilled tea on it. Unfortunately I did it twice in the same week, on different pages! So there in that one unit there are several days with tea stains and wrinkles from getting wet. My Bigger guide's binding isn't in the best shape either. I've had it a long time and used it for math activities and emerging readers before we used it for the guide itself. So it's seen it's better days. It's what I would called, really well loved! I'm glad your guide is salvageable! :D

And just today the dog jumped up on mine with dirty paws from where she had just come inside and no one wiped her feet. So I had a big dirt spot. I wiped it with a we paper towel and it got most of the dirt but left it wet and now wrinkled that it has dried. Oh well I will use it for my next son anyway then sell it so it will be well loved by then.

I am seriously wanting to do this! I just can't bring myself to tear pages out of a book! O.O Everything in me is screaming, "WRONG! WRONG!" Maybe I can take it to Staples and have them do it for me, so I don't feel so guilty. LOL Did you take the binding off yourself or did you take it somewhere to have it done?

 Yes, let Staples have the guilt of taking pages out of a perfectly good book!

Right! LOL It's ridiculously premature of me to be doing this since I've never even used HOD before, but I know how clumsy I am. And I've decided that this is it for me. If this doesn't work out for us, I'm going to do whatever it takes to make it work. I'm tired of flipping around each year, looking for curriculum.

I think you will love HOD. And my dd and I are having a blast doing Bigger this year. We have had an absolutely crazy year and I told my dd that next year we would have to take a year off from dance (hopefully we won't have as many dr appointments either!) because I don't want anything else getting in the way of us just DOING school. She really really loves dance. I was certain that she was going to be upset and sad by this. You know what she said? "It's ok mama, I love school even more than I love dance" . :D That is how great HOD is!!! :D
