...going to still do LHFHG for 1st grade after going through half of it for K, what would you add to it for 1st grade? We started out in LHFHG at half-speed, but then I bumped it up to full-speed in Jan. after DS was begging for more!

He is almost done with TRL(and is reading really well), his K handwriting book, and the Do It Carefully/Finding the Answers. I am thinking we will probably not finish the 2nd half of the book until almost the end of 1st grade b/c I will be doing a 4 day week with it, adding in "extras" the 5th day. I want to hold off Beyond for him until 2nd grade so he will hit Bigger in 3rd, so I am in no rush!
Here is what I could think of to add:
Emerging Readers set
Reason for Handwriting A
Thinking Skills Grade 1
*Should I add in Our Father's World for Science? We have The World God Made that we are doing now*
Singapore 1A & 1B
Thanks for your input!

I think you will be all set with the options you listed. I think the other science book is really up to you. The explorations you do will be the same just the reading will be somewhat different. I think you could change to Our Father's World if wanted, but I don't think it would be necessary since you haven't finished The World God Made yet. Sounds like you have a great plan!

Thanks, Patty!

Is Our Father's World basically the same set-up/amount of reading as The World God Made or is it a little more in-depth? DS usually wants me to read a bit more than what is assigned, so I was wondering...

If your ds likes the R&S ABC series how about the new R&S GHI series. I'm planning to get these for my dd for 1st. She loves the R&S workbooks we have been doing with LHFHG.

I do have both books so I went and took a look. It appears that Our Father's World has 10 more pages overall than The World God Made. On occasion there will be a page more to read in Our Father's World to go with an exploration. I wouldn't say that is more in depth, but it is additional information. If you have a little guy who wants more then you might want to include Our Father's World too so that you can read a little more about the topics. I happen to think too while looking at my guide that you could look for some of the supplemental history titles that are listed in the Appendix to read. We didn't do that, but I think my dc would have really enjoyed that.

If his handwriting is coming along nicely, I wouldn't bother with a book. I would make copywork of the Bible memory verses and maybe some from the Burgess stories.

Jessica,
We added exactly what you listed, but stuck with the K science. We were in a different place in the LHFHG guide with fine motor skills & math. So, when we finished the "K options" about a month into 1st grade, we moved to Beyond for math and back to the beginning of LHFHG with the 1st fine motor skills. If you're on the same 2-page spread, you could switch to 1st fine motor skills right away. But, I'd finish the K math for sure before moving to 1A/1B.
Oh, about 3 months into school this year we also started the spelling from Beyond. We used the plans in the Beyond guide, but didn't add the grammar lessons at that time. Now that we're totally in Beyond we're continuing the spelling lists but on week 1 in Beyond we were on spelling list 18 (or something like that). Anyway, I called that list "list 1", so that we were on the same page of the guide for everything but math. Make sense?

We are in the same position as you are! We have finished 1/2 of LHFHG this year for K because we also have done the activity section of MFW K. So now for next year I plan to add in the same things you listed for 1st grade and finish LHFHG. I was wondering too if this would be adequate. I hope I can stretch it out all year!

Great ideas - I second using some titles from the Appendix of LHFHG - that would be an excellent way to add to the history as well!

I think your plan sounds like a good one! Doing LHFHG 4 days a week all year until you finish should work well.

Then, instead of stretching, I'd just head into Beyond 4 days a week after that to finish out your year. Even if you only get into it a few weeks, this would give you some wiggle room the following year to be able to continue and finish Beyond doing it just 4 days a week the following year too.
Blessings,
Carrie
