Placement in R & S Grammar

Hi,
Just have a question about placement in R & S Grammar. If my dd completed FLL Level 3 last year (LOTS of diagramming, sentence types, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions covered), would she be OK to start R & S 4? We had tried R & S 3, but gave up after a month and went back to FLL (First Language Lessons). But she really did not like FLL grammar. And now I"m thinking it focuses too much on diagramming, memorizing and just straight parts of speech - not on practical skills. So I'm thinking of giving R & S another try. I especially like the focus on learning to write in it, after reading about it in another post (HOD and Language Arts - title).

Any input appreciated!

We're just at the end of R&S 3 and what you describe you have done in FLL this year is pretty much what we have done in R&S3. We've looked at the parts of speech, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. We've learned how to diagram all of those. We've learned about paragraphs, the main topic of a paragraph, and how to organize a paragraph. We're just getting ready to go into our last section which is going to be more about writing. I'm not for sure everything that we'll be doing the last unit, but I know we'll be studying how to write letters. It sounds like you've covered a lot of the same skills so R&S4 sounds like a reasonable placement to me. :D

Thanks, Patty. I appreciate your input! I think it sounds like we'd be on track for R&S 4, given what you've said.

I agree with Rod and Staff 4 as being a good placement for your daughter after FLL 3. :D You may want to consider doing 4 at half-speed over two years, depending on the age of your daughter and which guide you'll be using. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
