Question on 4 day week for Preparing

Post by Kirsten » Tue Mar 29, 2011 7:14 pm

I am looking into next year Preparing and just noticed it's 4 days per week and 35 units. How does this work if your state requires 180 days of school?
Thanks,

Field trips are great. We also have a co-op that we participate in one day a week so that makes up those extra days. You could also just use the 5th day to do extras that you want to include but wouldn't get to otherwise like nature study, art, music, foreign language, etc There are lots of different things you could do!

Kirsten,

I'm excited for the 4 day a week plan this coming year to be able to do all those other things the ladies mentioned. I've always found that we have a field trip or other educational opportunity come up that we want to partake in during the year. So this really frees up some time for doing all of those extras. I'm thinking of having what I call fun Fridays, not that our regular school work isn't fun, but this will just be different fun. I've got a ton of educational games that I've been wanting to play so that along with some extra art and building projects, cooking, wacky science experiments, etc. are going on the docket for fun Fridays. I figure too that if we need to, especially at the beginning, we can stretch the 4 days into 5 just until be get into the swing of things. By completing our work in a timely manner during the rest of the week, we can have a less structured day on Friday and explore some of those other areas that we haven't gotten to before or follow some of the rabbit trails that my dc want to explore. :D

Thanks Patty, I love your idea of Fun Fridays! Cooking is another GREAT idea!! My 10 year old son has told me he wants to learn to cook. When something is on the calendar, it is much more likely to happen at our house!! :P
