Poetry Copywork: Nice paper to motivate?

Post by Heart_Mom » Tue Mar 29, 2011 4:01 am

Hi!

My children are struggling with their poetry copywork and I think it may be because they are not seeing it as "special" but rather as just an assignment. By the way, Beyond in general is going fantastically; we all love it! :D It's just this copywork that they are struggling with.

I was thinking that it could be elevated in their minds by writing their poems on paper that was very nice-looking, then putting each page into a page-protector for their binders.

Do you have any suggestions? I was thinking that paper that has lines at the bottom, but is blank on top would be nice. Then they could illustrate their poems as the guide suggests.

What do you use? I did some searching online, but was not able to find anything.

Oh, and if this post is not with-in the guidelines, please feel free to delete it, Carrie! :D
Blessings,
Elisabeth

Hi! I LOVE the pages that holyhart just posted! Too cute!

We used this paper from Frog Street Press for the poetry copywork until we switched over to wide ruled paper:

My daughter just loved her pretty paper. I found ours on sale at our local school supply store. They also have the story paper like you mentioned online:

HTH!

Hi, Christy!

We actually have the paper in the second link you mentioned, and I really like it for my 6 year old. :D

I'd like to find something for my son that would be more along the lines (pun intended!) of the spacing of filler paper, but with the nice blank space at the top (and ideally a border too!).
Blessings,
Elisabeth

We are doing LHFHG and weekly, with storytime, the kids are supposed to help write a sentence. I bought a composition book (they have them with the handwriting lines for young elementary with the blank at the top) at Walmart. Each week, we get out our composition book to write the few sentences ("Reddy Fox can't run. Ethan can roll, run, and jump!"). I make them illustrate in color. Now, they love going back through their books to see what they've drawn. The few days they drew in pencil aren't near as much fun as the rest of their books. I figure I will continue along these lines with future composition books.

Maybe you could find a composition book for each of them...it would be their own creation.

Have you checked donnayoung.org or currclick? They might have some you could print and put in a binder.

I just love these creative ideas! I am so UNcreative. My boys just use regular paper with lines and haven't complained about it at all thankfully! But next year, I really like the way the frog press paper looks. I think I will get some of that!

Thanks for posting!

Thanks, Ladies, for all your kind replies! :D

You've given me some great ideas from which to choose!

Starting today, I'm going on a self-imposed internet fast because I've been spending more time online than I should. So if anyone else responds, I won't be able to respond right away.

Thanks again!!!!
Blessings,
Elisabeth
