Hi!

I will be doing Preparing with a 5th grader next year. Do you all recommend doing the writing assignments that are in the program, or do you supplement with another writing program?
Thanks!
Andi

Hi Andi! Lucky, lucky gal to get to be doing PHFHG - loved that year. :D Could you please share the age of your fifth grader? I think that would make a difference. Thanks! :D

Thanks for sharing that! I think I'd just do the writing in PHFHG, as long as he's doing R & S English too. There are writing assignments in R & S English. You could consider having him do R & S English 4 half-speed if he was ready, and you wanted him to as well. :D Or, if you feel he needs more writing once you have started PHFHG, you could easily add "Igniting Your Writing 1" at that point. It has 3 levels in it, and can be started at any time within the year. HTH! :D

Julie

Have you used Igniting Your Writing? If so, how do you like it?
I have never heard of it before. Is it pretty teacher-friendly?

I have not used it, but my sister Carrie has, and I own it. :D Carrie thought it was very teacher-friendly, and an easy way to up the writing for an older child. There are 3 levels - start-up, intermediate, advanced. There is also an "Igniting Your Writing II", which is geared more toward high school. Here's a past post that may be helpful...
