Multiplicity...made easy?

I am looking into all the options of HOD and realize I love starting with the CONTENT of LHFHG because then I could cover the history part with all my kiddos (7,5,4,2) but my oldest needs the science and basic of the Beyond OR even Bigger (he could go either way at this point.) From those who have run out of two guides, would it be possible to do it this way and purchase both guides...I guess I'd never end up meeting them all in the same place but...? I'd like to cover the lit. used in the history portion with my oldest from the Beyond but then feel there are gaps in the understanding of history. Should I just have him do BOTH? or...? So much to consider! I welcome any thoughts...

I'm not for sure if I understand your question so forgive me if I'm way off base. For some reason I'm feeling pretty brain dead this evening. We did LHFHG with my dc when they were 6, but they were ready for higher language arts and math so we used Beyond for the LA and math. We did stick with the science in LHFHG. When they were in Beyond, we did the math and LA in Bigger. Then in Bigger since there are more advanced choices for the LA and math, we have been pretty much in Bigger this year. I say pretty much since we are using R&S3 instead of the scheduled R&S2 for grammar, but we do it one lesson per day just like the other is scheduled. Next year in Preparing everything will be scheduled for us. It really isn't difficult at all to use one guide as your core and use a second for a different level of language arts or math. The science would be a bit trickier since it tends to be tied more closely to the history in the guide for which it was written. You could however up the science by having your ds do some extra reading on the subject from the library, doing lapbooks, etc. If you did still continue to keep them together, later your ds could be doing the extensions (once you get to Bigger).

Another option that might be better for you if your ds places in Beyond or Bigger is to put him where he places doing that as his core guide. Then when you do the history readings for your younger dc from LHFHG, allow your older ds to sit in on the readings. He'll take a lot away from it that way even if it isn't his guide. Where do your dc place on the placement chart? http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php
