Em. Reader Set Question

I am late buying the emerging reader set for my daughter due to finances. She is advanced beyond some of them and probably ready for the latter half. Would you recommend that I start at her level or start at the beginning of the set no matter what?
Thanks!

Start with what she's ready for. Other moms do this who are new to HOD and ready to dive in. Starting about where she's ready and moving forward using the schedule with the comprehension questions will get her ready for DITHOR. Have fun!

I would think you should start at her level as well. She might get bored with it if it is too easy for her or begin to slack. This happened with my younger son, and I had to up his reading because of it. He would say with a sigh, "Mom, this is so easy..." (yawn) Soooooooo, we had to go a little further with it. Some children are like that...they will slack if it is too easy....and some will slack and complain if it is too hard.

What grade levels do the readers start with and end with.

I started my DD at the beginning of the readers this year. It has been a bit below level, but she hasn't complained. It's given her a lot of confidence with reading aloud. I'm now anxious to start DITHOR, but I don't want to skip the last little bit...especially when we'll soon be reading the chapter books! I don't think you'd go wrong either way...unless she is the type to complain about it being too easy.

I'd start her where she can comfortably read quite smoothly. If that is in the middle of the set, that's fine!

You can always give her the earlier readers for fun independent reading.

The comprehension questions build comprehension skills incrementally, as they utilize the Bloom's Taxonomy pyramid. As long as she's moving on in her reading and answering her questions well, she'll be ready for DITHOR 2/3 at the close of the ERS.
