The Reading Lesson question
The Reading Lesson question
I just received this to use with dd4 (almost 5 - eep!). I was wondering if those who have this mark in the book for the lessons or not? If not, do you copy the page for activity or something else? I'd like to be able to use it again for my youngest ds later.

Re: The Reading Lesson question
I just copied the pages that needed to be written on since there were so few. We are on lesson 12 now and there are fewer to copy as you get into it. In fact, sometimes we just do those pages orally now.

Re: The Reading Lesson question
Some have used a clear sheet protector and dry-erase markers. Crayola makes a nice set of wipe-off crayons now, that we liked to use. Fortunately, there aren't too many pages like that, more at the beginning, less as you move on. HTH

Re: The Reading Lesson question
I am using TRL with my dd 7. I usually have her "draw" with her finger to find the matching word etc. I am not trying to save the pages she just struggles with her fine motor skills. Holding a pencil causes all her mental energy to be focused on "doing that right" and I didn't want learning to read to be a stressful experience. You would need to check to see what the copyright permission is on this book for multiple children if copying the pages. We are really enjoying this book and using it with the CD!

Re: The Reading Lesson question
I plan to use TRL with each of my little ones when it's their turn (I have three more in line). So I definitly want to take care of this book. I've copied a few pages in the beginning, but found in later chapters it's just as effective to just use her finger to draw lines. I started my daughter about the same time as yours, maybe a little younger. We're on lesson 14 and she has taken off with reading and pronouncing words. Learning to read has opened a whole new world for her, thanks to TRL! Have fun.
God Bless,

Re: The Reading Lesson question
We write in ours. I just bought another one for my second child. The book was starting to fall apart anyway and my youngest was really excited that she would get one that was all her own.
Re: The Reading Lesson question
I'm very disappointed in my copy. It has totally fallen apart after only about 18 months of use. The binding has split in two with many pages coming out. I've had to buy a new copy, and I hope it lasts. I too plan to use it with upcoming readers. We just used our fingers to trace out the lines for the few pages that require that. This has only gotten lap use, nothing unusual or harsh. Makes me so glad Carrie's guides have such wonderful binding that really hold up to use and time. A blessing indeed.

Re: The Reading Lesson question
I had my copy of TRL spiral-bound because I was quickly noticing the spine breaking from having to push it flat for my ds to be able to read the pages more easily. I was spoiled by the HOD guides laying flat so nicely

Re: The Reading Lesson question
We just trace with our finger so I can use it again in the future. I think it would be easier to make a copy of the page to write on, so it can lay flat on the table instead of being all bumpy and wavy.
